More broadly, the Rural Summer Legal Corps program connects public interest law students with civil legal aid organizations to address pressing legal issues facing rural communities. Thirty fellowship opportunities are available nationwide to provide critical legal services to rural communities in the areas of housing, child welfare, migrant workers, disaster relief and more.

Selected students will receive a $5,000 stipend and begin the summer with intensive training from issue area experts in Washington, DC before deploying to their host site for an 8-10 week placement.  1Ls and 2Ls are eligible. Interested students can learn more about the program and apply by 11:59pm ET on Sunday, February 12.

AkronLawJobs No. 9099 Overview: The U.S. Department of Justice has an opening for at least one legal intern with the Executive Office for Immigration Review’s Cleveland Immigration Court for Summer 2018. The court is located at the Carl B. Stokes U.S. Courthouse in downtown Cleveland.

Qualifications: 1L or 2L. Prior knowledge of immigration law is helpful but not absolutely necessary. MUST be a U.S. Citizen

Duties: Issues commonly before the Court include eligibility for asylum, cancellation of removal, and adjustment of status as well as issues regarding whether an individual is removable from the United States based on a criminal conviction. The types of projects assigned to legal interns vary depending on the Court’s docket, and may entail:  Drafting decisions on applications for relief from removal or removability; Performing in-depth research and analysis of novel legal issues; Preparing bench memoranda.

What you will learn: The internship provides students with an excellent opportunity to develop their research, writing, and analytical skills and increase their knowledge of immigration law. The interns will be able to observe removal hearings and work on cases involving several forms of relief including asylum, adjustment of status, and cancellation of removal. The interns will work directly under the supervision of the Judicial Law Clerk / Attorney Advisor and will also work with individual immigration judges.

Externship/Volunteer: This internship is an unpaid, volunteer position. Students interested in receiving stipends or academic credit from their law school should contact Dean Alisa Benedict O’Brien in the Career Services Office.

Duties: Work with NASA Glenn’s Technology Transfer Office (TTO) to assist in the licensing of our IP to various partners through several license types. Although all of the opportunities to assist the TTO cannot be listed here, some specific projects are:  Develop Joint Ownership Agreements with specific partners to define the roles and responsibilities of each party in the commercialization of a jointly owned invention. Research the patents to ensure that NASA’s database accurately lists the inventors, determine the patent rights for all parties involved, and prepare the document for execution. Analyze license applications by determining the feasibility of the commercialization plan, identifying similar IP in selected markets and flagging potential problem areas. Conduct market analysis of the potential products. Participate in review of the applications and recommendations for and against licensing as a part of the licensing team. Perform patent searches, using various software platforms and websites to assess the patent landscape and identify the markets where HASA’s patented IP may fit. Research Federal licensing, royalty, and other relevant regulations and review license templates to recommend language to clarify the agreements and assist in the creation of a licensing handbook.

Qualifications: 2L; and able to work 32-40 hours per week.

Duties:  Must be working towards a JD, with a preference for candidates pursuing the Health Law Certificate. Have the ability to work on a team or individually. Candidate should be prepared to conduct legal and internet-based research; draft memos, contract provisions and policies; analyze data relating to regulatory compliance matters and create summaries of the results; work with contract and other administrative databases; and perform other tasks as assigned. Should be comfortable with Microsoft Office (Word/Excel) and have the ability to learn additional software, specific to health care.

Qualifications: 1L or 2L. Must maintain a competitive GPA and be willing to learn. Must be legally authorized to work in the USA. Must be a good communicator, possess a strong work ethic, and be comfortable working in a team to achieve project goals.

Hours: Seeking candidates who are interested in a full-time summer experience, with a stipend paid for hours worked beyond those required to obtain law school credit.
