AkronLawJobs No. 9917 Overview: The Air Force Judge Advocate General’s Corps is seeking 1L applications for a PAID 2019 summer internship program. As an intern, you will gain hands-on experience in diverse areas of legal practice while learning more about the Air Force JAG Corps.

Duties: As an intern, you will have the opportunity to work under attorney supervision in numerous practice areas including, but not limited to: Preparing criminal and civil cases by conducting legal research, writing briefs and opinions, conducting investigations, and interviewing witnesses; Assisting attorneys who counsel and represent Airmen, their family members, and retirees in personal legal matters; Supporting attorneys in other areas, such as federal tort claims, government procurement law, employment law, international law, and environmental law.

Qualifications: US Citizen (birth or naturalization); Enrollment in an ABA-approved law school; Available to work full-time between 8-10 consecutive weeks in the summer; Be able to obtain a Common Access Card through a security clearance; Complete one academic year of law school by the start of the internship.

PLEASE NOTE: Interns must pay for their travel to and from the job location. Interns must be able to secure their own housing (the Air Force will not provide housing and no housing allowance will be provided.)

The Patti Rose Scheimer Bednarik Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Patti Rose Scheimer Bednarik Memorial Scholarship Fund has been created to support the award of an annual scholarship to a law school student or lawyer in practice for less than 3 years who demonstrates an outstanding commitment to animal law or animal welfare. The maximum annual award will be $5,400.

Eligibility:  Applicants must be either: 1) Pennsylvania residents enrolled in a law school within the United States; 2) Law students enrolled in any of Pennsylvania’s accredited law schools; or 3) Pennsylvania lawyers in practice LESS THAN THREE YEARS.

Applicants MUST PERFORM VOLUNTEER SERVICE TO AN ANIMAL WELFARE ORGANIZATION before, during, and/or after law school; or engage in scholarship in the field of animal law and animal welfare, including reading, research, writing and clinical work; or perform pro bono legal work in the field of animal welfare.

The recipient will be selected by the Pennsylvania Bar Foundation Scholarship Committee with the participation and advice of the Donor. In the event more than one applicant is deemed deserving, the scholarship/grant may be divided between not more than two applicants.

  • A one to three-page narrative describing your interest in animal issues. Applicants will be evaluated based on the degree to which they address the following areas:
    • Describe any animal law (or animal protection) activities and experience (academic, volunteer, activism, employment, etc.) to date.
    • If applicable, describe how your law school education will help you to be a better advocate for animals.
    • Describe how you see yourself protecting the welfare of animals through the legal system.
    • Describe how receiving this scholarship will help advance your commitment to animal law/animal welfare.
  • Additionally, please feel free to submit any papers, pleadings, law review or newspaper articles that demonstrate your animal law/animal welfare volunteer service.

Cincinnati, OH – Summer 2019 Law Clerk – Legal Aid Society of Southwest Ohio, (deadline FRIDAY)

AkronLawJobs No. 9914 Overview: Seeking applications for summer law clerk positions. Must have completed your 1L year or be in your 2L before the summer of 2019. APPLICANTS WHO CAN OBTAIN FUNDING FROM THEIR LAW SCHOOL, EQUAL JUSTICE WORKS, OR OTHER SOURCES ARE PREFERRED. We may be able to supplement funding especially for applicants who will have completed their 2nd year of law school. The Legal Aid Society serves Brown, Butler, Clermont, Clinton, Hamilton, Highland, and Warren Counties in Southwest Ohio. There are two offices — downtown Cincinnati and Hamilton, Ohio) and a total staff of about 89, including 41 attorneys and 13 paralegals. The attorneys represent individual clients in civil legal matters and work with community organizations and client groups.

Duties: Will perform legal research and provide other assistance to Legal Aid attorneys in their cases; In addition, all summer law clerks attend regular meetings on public interest law topics with their supervisors and other attorneys. There will also be many opportunities to observe court proceedings.

Qualifications: 1L or 2L with strong academic record, an interest in public interest law, and good organizational and communication skills.
