Veterans Legal Corps Program (Awards and Positions for 1L and 2Ls in public interest law)

Equal Justice Works has a new program known as the Veterans Legal Corps program (formerly AmeriCorps JD) with 250 slots reserved for those serving veterans and low-income communities. Veterans Legal Corps members receive a $1,200 educational award for their service and can receive outside funding up to $4,200.

There are two ways to participate in Veterans Legal Corps:

  • If you have already secured a public interest opportunity at a nonprofit for this summer, you may be eligible to participate and can apply now! It’s a bit less restrictive than the program name might suggest – generally, most positions working with low-income clients will qualify as long as the student’s supervisor can confirm that the non profit/clinic serves the veteran community in some capacity and that they will make an effort throughout the course of your service to be involved with these efforts. This can be through any area of the law (housing, family, expungement, etc.). Click here to review more details on eligibility requirements.

Please apply as soon as possible as Equal Justice Works will be accepting participants on a rolling basis through May 15, 2019.  Applications must be finalized and fully accepted at least two weeks prior to the start of service.
