AkronLawJobs No 10104 Overview: The Ohio Legal Assistance Foundation (the Foundation) will award a two-year Justice Bus Fellowship (the Fellowship) to an outstanding recent law school graduate with a passion for public service.

Duties: The Fellow will be responsible for launching and coordinating the Ohio Justice Bus project as detailed in Appendix A. The Fellow will be required to connect with statewide legal aid organizations to ensure that the Ohio Justice Bus project is successfully staffed with pro bono attorneys and that it provides legal services to unserved and underserved populations in Ohio. The Fellow will receive a competitive salary, benefits, and up to $6,000 in annual educational loan repayment assistance.

Qualifications: 3L graduating in May or a recent graduate. Willing to travel all over the state in the Justice Bus (really an extended sprinter van). The van will serve as a high-tech, mobile office, transporting both people and technology to its service areas. The extended springer van will be retrofitted to provide adequate, private workspaces for clients to meet with attorneys, and include all of the required equipment to enable a pro bono attorney to access court documents or print filings or client correspondence. You should be comfortable with technology and will need to maximize the benefit of the technology on the Bus.

Law Alumni Association Student Director Position Opening

Message from Andreas Ellis, Director of Alumni and Development:

The Akron Law Alumni Association (“LAA”) Board of Directors has a dedicated position on its Board for a student director.  This unique and valuable opportunity provides the student director a chance to become involved in alumni leadership and activities with the law school.  The student director represents Akron Law students to the LAA Board and works with the Board to identify ways that students and alumni may work and communicate together for the benefit of both groups.

The student director serves in an ex-officio capacity and is expected to attend all Board meetings, which are held at the School of Law on a bi-monthly basis throughout the academic year (i.e., June, August, October, December, February, and April).  The Board meetings begin at 4:30 p.m. and generally last for one and a half hours.

The student director is also expected to assist with the class gift campaign.

Applications for the 2019-2020 student director to the LAA Board of Directors will be accepted from upper division law students who are in good standing.  Applications should include:

  • – why he or she wants to serve on the LAA Board;
  • – why the student believes that he or she should be selected for the position;
  • – a copy of the student’s resume; and
  • – a proposed plan for the year ahead.

Akron Bar Foundation Fellowship — Summer 2019 (NEW Deadline)

Akron Bar Foundation Fellowship – Summer 2019

The Career Services Office is excited to announce that the Akron Bar Foundation will be awarding fellowship stipends to first and second year law students while the student(s) is performing a summer clerkship with a not-for-profit, public interest or government position. The ABF Fellowship is available to any University of Akron Law School student completing their first or second year (full-time program) or second and third year (part-time program) curriculum. Recipients must commit to working in the position for at least 25 hours per week for a period of not less than ten (10) weeks, starting the third week of May. Students must arrange for work in a not-for-profit, public interest or government position prior to submitting an application.

To apply, students must submit an application to the Career Services Office by 12 noon on Monday, April 8, 2019. The application that is submitted must include: (i) a completed and signed Fellowship Program application form  (available in the CSO, or email lawcareerplanning@uakron.edu to request an application and instructions be emailed to you); (ii) law and graduate school (if applicable) transcripts (official copy, if possible), honors and awards; (iii) a current resume; (iv) a personal statement; (v) a statement from the employer confirming employment and the anticipated dates of employment; and (vi) such other information as requested. The application also may include letters of recommendation.

Up to five applicants for the ABF Fellowship will be chosen for a personal interview to be conducted by select members of the Akron Bar Foundation on April 17, 2019 at the School of Law. The number of ABF fellowships awarded and the amount awarded will be determined by the Akron Bar Foundation, but the amount of an individual award shall not be less than $2,500.
