GSLA MEETING – Wed. Nov. 7. – 12:15 – L-167

The executive board of GSLA would once again like to thank everyone for coming out to the Charity Drag Show.  Thanks to your donations to our amazing performers, we were able to raise well over $500 for the Trevor Project so that they may continue to offer help and support for LGBTQ youth and young adults across America through their crisis and suicide prevention programs.  GSLA’s next meeting is scheduled for November 7, 2012 at 12:15 PM in Room L-167.  Our own Prof. Huhn will present a program on the status of current same-sex marriage litigation, we will discuss new GSLA programs and goals influenced from the Lavender Law Conference, and finally, we will talk about speakers and volunteer opportunities available to members next semester.  If you would like to join GSLA, but will be unable to attend our next meeting, please email Elisa at ejw23@zips.uakron.edu.

GSLA SOCIAL Halloween Edition – Wed. 10/31, 4-7 pm, The Office

GSLA SOCIAL Halloween Edition – Wed. 10/31, 4-7 pm, The Office

Join the GSLA before the night turns dark and goblins, ghouls (and maybe a few trick-or-treaters) come out to play. We will be holding our monthly social at The Office (778 N Main St, Akron) on Halloween from 4-7pm. There will an assortment of brews and potions (cocktails) at Happy Hour prices from 4-6 as well as half off treats (appetizers) to fend off the hunger-pains of Halloween fun and mischief. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend!

ABA Trial Team Advances to National Championship

Our ABA Trial Team, which consists of Kelle Redepenning, Anthony Wise, Kelsie Carson, and Joshua Rau and is coached by Brian Dodez (’09) competed in Boston this past weekend. Due to the inclement weather, their return flight was cancelled, so they rented a car, drove through the night, and arrived back in Cleveland today at 5 am. Despite the travel concerns, the team went undefeated and has advanced to the National Championship in the American Bar Association Section of Labor and Employment Law’s Ninth Annual Law Student Trial Advocacy Competition.  This was the first time Akron participated in this tournament.  Three of the advocates are 2Ls who have never been in a competition, and the other is a 3L who has tried one case in competition prior to this.

Please congratulate these students for an outstanding performance when you see them in the building this week.
