BLSA Banquet – March 31, 6:30 pm, Fairlawn Country Club

I would like to invite you to “Excellence,” Akron BLSA’s Annual End-of-Year Banquet.  This event will take place Saturday, March 31st from 6:30pm – 10pm at the Fairlawn Country Club.  We are honored to have Peter Lawson Jones, Esq. former Cuyahoga County Commissioner as our keynote speaker, as we celebrate the culmination of a year of phenomenal programming, events, and professional development.

Guests will enjoy classical music by Musicali String Quartet, hot & cold hors d’oeuvres, and a three-course meal. This will be a great opportunity to network with attorneys, judges, and Akron Law faculty.

Individuals interested in purchasing tickets can pay cash, credit card, money order, or check.  Please make all checks payable to “Akron BLSA.”  Tickets are $35 for students. LAW – Dress Sale

Get ready for Barrister’s Ball! LAW will be accepting dress donations, and we will have a sale of those dresses Thursday, March 22nd 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. for $20 a piece in the law school lounge. Go home and search your closets during spring break! All dresses not sold will be donated. Find your dress for Barrister’s for less this year! Please e-mail Emily Fehr at eab51@zips.uakron.edu to arrange a time for her to pick up your donation. Last-minute donations may be taken directly to the dress sale.

Effie Solomon Memorial Scholarship

The Beaver Valley Branch of the American Association of University Women is again offering the Effie Solomon Memorial Scholarship. The award of $1000 is open to female residents of Beaver County, Pennsylvania who are enrolled in an accredited law school. Those who have completed at least one year of law school in good standing shall be given preference.

The application procedure is as follows:

  2. Completed application form submitted by April 29, 2012
  3. Three letters of reference. (at least two from law school)
  4. Transcripts of grades from college and law school.
  5. Interview by the Beaver Valley AAUW Scholarship Committee.

J. Andrew Fulker Scholarship

The Scholarship Committee of the Miami County Bar Association announces it is currently receiving applications for scholarship grants from the J. Andrew Fulker Memorial Scholarship Fund. The Fund was established, in cooperation with the Troy Foundation, as a lasting tribute to Troy Attorney J. Andrew Fulker who died in an auto accident in 1989.

Andy Fulker was a 1971 graduate of Troy High School. He received a Bachelor’s Degree from The Ohio State University in 1976 and his Juris Doctor degree from California Western School of Law in 1979. He was admitted to the practice of law in Ohio in 1979 and became a partner in the Troy law firm of Faust, Harrelson, Fulker & McCarthy. He served as Assistant Municipal Prosecutor for the City of Troy from 1979 to 1982 and as counsel for the Miami County Planning and Zoning Boards from 1979 through 1981. He was a member of the Miami County, Ohio State, and American Bar Associations, the Ohio Academy of Trial Lawyers, Association of Trial Lawyers of America, and Ohio Association of Civil Trial Attorneys.

The scholarship fund is designed to assist deserving law students who are residents of Miami County. Recipients of J. Andrew Fulker Memorial Scholarship grants will be selected by the Scholarship Committee of the Miami County Bar Association. Grants will be used for law school tuition. To be eligible an applicant must be admitted for fulltime attendance at a college of law or law school in a program designed to lead to a Juris Doctor or similar law degree.

The scholarship fund operates as an endowment fund with grants awarded from the income earned on the principal of the fund. Gifts to the J. Andrew Fulker Memorial Scholarship Fund are eligible for deduction as a charitable contribution for federal income tax purposes. Contributions may be made payable to the Troy Foundation, designated for the J. Andrew Fulker Memorial Scholarship Fund, and mailed or delivered to Melissa A. Kleptz, Admin. Lake County Bar Association Scholarship

The Lake County Bar Foundation of the Lake County Bar Association is pleased to announce it will be awarding up to three (3) One Thousand Dollar ($1,000.00) Scholarships on Law Day, May 1, 2012. Law students who arc legal residents of Lake County, Ohio are eligible and are invited to apply.
