SELS – General Meetings – Sept. 6, 12:20 (W-214) and 5:30 pm (W-210)

The Sports and Entertainment Law Society will hold its first meetings of the semester on September 6 at 12:20 (room W-214) and 5:30 pm (Room W-210).

We will hold elections for the two student officer positions available including president and vice president. If you are interested in running for one of these positions, please join, and post a short description of why you think you would be great for this position on the group’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/213626415362753/ SELS will also be soliciting ideas for possible events, speaker topics, and fundraising for the upcoming year. We will be forming committees based on the projects proposed at this meeting so if you are not elected for an office, members can also chair or simply participate in a committee. Even if you are not ready or able to take a position as an officer, committee participation is a great way to build your resume. Hope to see you there!

New Juvenile Court Program Training Session – September 10, 10 am – 1 pm, Legal Clinic

On Saturday September 10, 2011 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Legal Clinic there will be a training session for a new program. Through this new program students will be able to volunteer to interview juveniles, weekday mornings from 7 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. The purpose of the interviews is to gather facts for attorneys to use when representing the client for the initial Juvenile Court appearance. You can do as many or as few interviews as you would like. But if you volunteer you will have to make the interview day and time to which you committed.

The training session will equip you to interview young people, identify a variety of issues and gather relevant information for the court appearance. You will discuss the case with the attorney the morning you do the interview.

The interviews will be conducted at the Juvenile Court and the detention facility which are on Dan Street, about a 5 minute drive from the School of Law.

If you are interested in this training session please contact Professor Carro at carro1@uakron.edu by September 2, 2011. Seating is limited. If you are not able to attend this training session a video will be available for later viewing. The program organizers would like to begin the interviews by September 15, 2011.
