SEC Historical Society Writing Competition

The Securities and Exchange Commission’s Historical Society invites students to participate in the 2017 Writing Competition. Students are asked to complete a paper between 5 and 30 pages on any topic in securities regulation. Use of material currently in the collection of www.sechistorical.org is encouraged but not required. Submissions will be reviewed by an independent SEC Historical Society panel, and winning submissions will be placed for a period of time on the Historical Society’s website. Up to two winning papers will each receive a $5,000 award.

2017 ABA Client Counseling Competition: Sign Up Now!! (And Info Session 11/22)

We invite all Akron Law students to compete in the 2017 ABA Client Counseling Competition, which will be on Saturday, January 14, 2017. Teams of two conduct an initial interview with a fictional client and address the client’s legal (and non-legal) needs. The teams must, among other things, build a relationship with the client, determine the client’s goals, and consider options available to the client.

This competition is open to all Akron Law students (including 1Ls). Find a partner and sign up today!

There will also be an information session with President Wilson on Tuesday, November 22nd at 5:15 in Law 140. Come learn more about the competition from President Wilson and learn about the invaluable skills and fantastic time that this competition offers–not to mention the possibility of having President Wilson coach your team.

Winners of the local competition on January 14 will advance to the ABA Regional Competition in February. If you are interested in competing but do not have a partner, please contact Dean Fuller.

Trandafir International Business Writing Competition

All current law students are welcome to participate in the 2016-17 Trandafir International Business Writing Competition. Students may write papers on any topic of contemporary international business or economic concern with a legal nexus. The winner will receive a cash prize of $2,000 and publication. Submissions must be sent to law-trandafir@uiowa.edu and must be received by 5:00 p.m. (CST) on March 3, 2017.

Crane Writing Competition (Disability and the Law)

The Jameson Crane III Writing Competition is open to currently enrolled law students (and medical students and other graduate students in related fields). Students may submit papers on any topic related to disability law, including legal issues regarding employment, government services and programs, public accommodations, education, higher education, housing, and health care. Submissions may not exceed 35 pages in length, including citations, figures and tables, and the cover page.

All submissions must be submitted electronically to cranewritingcompetition@tjsl.edu. All entries must be received by midnight (PST) on January 15, 2017. First place will receive a $1,500 cash prize and potential publication. Two second-place winners will each receive a $1,000 cash prize.
