The next BLSA (Black Law Students Association) meeting is scheduled for October 5 at 12:15 p.m. Room TBA.

To all students (especially part-time students): if you are interested in attending BLSA General Body meetings but are not available during the lunch hour, please e-mail BLSA President, Hanne-lore Gambrell, at hmf16@zips.uakron.edu to let us know if you are available for meetings on Mondays at 5:15 (or another evening time). If there is enough interest, we are willing to offer 2 separate meeting times to accommodate all students.

BLSA is for all students, not just minority students. We encourage participation for anyone who may be interested!

Are you planning to graduate in May 2017? If so, you must apply for graduation via MyAkron, and the deadline to do so is October 1. Step-by-step directions are available at MyAkron as well. If you have questions, please contact the Office of Student Services at lawstudentservices@uakron.edu.

It’s time to register for the 18th Annual Law Student Closing Argument Competition, which will be on Thursday, October 13 at the Cuyahoga County Courthouse. This competition is open to any upper-division law student, who will give a 15-minute closing argument in a civil case for the plaintiff, a catastrophically injured child. The argument is on damages only.

The top three students will receive scholarship awards of $750 for first place, $500 for second place, and $200 for third place. Akron Law has traditionally performed well at this competition–we took home first and third place last year, and in 2013 we swept all three places!

For Akron Law students, faculty, and staff who have children: a new play group for children is starting. The group will meet Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. For more information about locations and activities, check out and join the Akron Law Play Group Facebook page. Activities will include playing at parks, storytime, and art and science activities. Children of all ages are welcome. The Student Bar Association is having an apparel sale from NOW through SEPTEMBER 9th! SBA is selling Quarter Zip Sweatshirts ($25); Crewneck Sweatshirts ($20); V-Neck and Crewneck Tees ($10); and Baseball Tees ($15). Sizes are unisex sizing S-XL. Additional larger sizes can be requested.
