Career Planning events – week of October 29, 2012

1- Tuesday, October 30, 2012 from 12:20 – 1 p.m. in Room 133 — “Law Alumni and Lunch – everything you’ve always wanted to know but were afraid to ask”. Please join members of the Akron Law Alumni Association for an informal lunch discussion. ”Law Alumni and Lunch” will bring together students and practicing attorneys to allow students to learn more about the profession. The conversation during this event will be student driven – this is the time to ask those “off the record” questions. Lunch will be served. Due to limited space, you must RSVP to Jeanne Kennedy (jeanne2@uakron.edu) no later that Monday, October 29, 2012 at 5 p.m.

Meet in a large group with the Career Planning Staff to discuss the basics of resumes, cover letters, options for summer 2013 jobs, and everything career-related you need to know. Following your attendance at one of these sessions, you will be permitted to schedule an individual career planning consultation with the CPPO staff. Mark your calendar now!

Career Planning & Placement Office announces 2013 Lawyer to Law Student Mentor Program for all 2014 grads

Attention all Second Year Law Students (those graduating in 2014): Would you like the opportunity to get a glimpse into the practice of law and begin to build your professional NETWORK? The Office of Career Planning & Placement, in conjunction with The Akron Bar Association Liaison Committee, invites you to participate in the Lawyer to Law Student Mentor Program. This program pairs second year University of Akron Law students with local lawyers for the purposes of assisting law students in beginning the transition from law school to law practice, through a one-on-one relationship with practicing attorneys.

To participate in the 2013 Lawyer-to-Law Student Mentoring Program:

1- you must attend one of the MANDATORY Mentor Program Training Sessions: Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at 12:20 OR Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 5:15.

2- You must turn in a Mentor Program application, including the short answer questions, to the Career Planning Office by Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 12 noon. Mentor Program applications are available in the CPPO and online at https://www.uakron.edu/law/career/docs/2012-13-Mentee-Application.pdf. All students will be notified of their assigned mentor by Tuesday, December 11, 2012.
