MOCK INTERVIEWS – The Career Planning and Placement Office (“CPPO”) is pleased to announce that a number of local attorneys have agreed to conduct mock interviews with our law students here at The University of Akron School of Law AND off campus at their offices to conduct mock interviews with our law students.  Each mock interview will last approximately ½ hour – 45 minutes and will generally consist of a  20 -30 minute interview and a 15-20 minute feedback session. The most up to date list of dates and times available is below.

 We encourage ALL law students to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to enhance their interviewing skills and network with local, practicing attorneys. As with any skill, practice and feedback are crucial to perfecting! If you would like to sign up for a mock interview, please stop by or call the CPPO (330-972-5321) to choose the  time slot that works best for you. When you sign up for your mock interview, you must e-mail your resume to Jeanne Kennedy in the CPPO so that we may provide it in advance to the attorney who will be performing your mock interview.

Fall 2012 Public Interest Law Program

Fall 2012 Akron Law Public Interest Law Program – applications for the fall 2012 Public Interest Law (PIL) program will be accepted beginning Monday, August 27, 2012. Students interested in applying for a  fall 2012 PIL award should now begin thinking about and securing a public interest placement for their fall PIL work experience. The PIL program supports and encourages those students who would like to gain experience in public interest areas. Recent local placements have included:

 If you think you would like to do this work, but have no idea how to line up a placement, please feel free to call upon Professor Koosed (statewide agencies), Professor Carro (Akron), Career Planning Director, Barbara C. Weinzierl, Esq. (general) or Assistant Career Planning Director, Alisa Benedict O’Brien.  The deadline to submit your application for fall 2012 funding is Monday, September 17 at 12:00 Noon.  It is expected that you will secure a placement in advance of submitting your application.

 The application form is to be filled out by the student/applicant.  The organization that will employ you as a volunteer law clerk and will provide supervision will need to confirm that in a letter on their letterhead/stationary.  They will need to include your start date, end date, number of hours per week on average, supervisor’s name, and a sentence describing your anticipated duties.  This letter also needs to be submitted by the application deadline of Monday, Monday, September 17, 2012 at 12:00 Noon.

Lawyers  are extremely busy people.  Thus, as with a real job interview, please take this experience seriously.  That is, arrive on time to your mock interview, dress appropriately for an interview, and be prepared. Preparation includes bringing copies of your resume, having questions to ask the interviewer, and knowing a bit about the attorney and his/her firm or organization.
