Position Description – The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) is an agency within the U.S. Department of Education responsible for enforcing civil rights laws prohibiting discrimination on the bases of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, and age in educational institutions that are recipients of federal financial assistance from the Department and, with respect to disability, in certain public entities. The Cleveland office, which is located at 600 Superior Avenue, East, Suite 750, Cleveland, Ohio, is seeking 1-3 full-time volunteer legal interns for the summer of 2012. Interns will be participating in casework and legal research in a variety of OCR’s areas of practice. All applicants should show strong writing and communication skills, initiative, and commitment. Applicants must be able to commit to a 12-week internship with OCR. Students are highly encouraged to seek public interest fellowship funds for the internship. The start date is flexible, as early as May 7. Applications are due by February 10, 2012, but will be reviewed on a rolling basis; early applications are encouraged.

Community Legal Aid (Akron) to interview on campus on February 16

On-Campus Interviews – Community Legal Aid – Akron, OH – February 16, 2012
Legal Aid is looking for dedicated, hardworking, and public-interested minded students for its Summer Program.  Legal Aid has opportunities available for 2L’s (with or without intern certificate) and 1L’s.  Law students who are applying to participate in the Summer Intern Program are expected to work unpaid for at least 10 weeks and may work up to 13 weeks.  An Application form and a description of the 2012 Summer Intern Program are available in the Career Planning and Placement Office.  Applications (resume, references, writing sample and application form) are to be submitted to Jeanne Kennedy (jeanne2@uakron.edu) no later than January 31 at 12:00 Noon.
