2011-2012 Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program to open soon — details below

2011-12 Presidential Management Fellows Program:  The 2011-2012 Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program application season will open on September 15, 2011.  Approximately 850 3Ls, LLMs, and other Graduate Students will be selected for this two-year program which places applicants in public policy and management positions with a variety of federal agencies and departments.  In 2011, 860 finalists were selected from 9,000 applicants; by Summer’s end, 400 had found placements. 

 The program provides a two-year federal government fellowship to individuals who have completed a graduate-level course of study at an accredited college or university.

 PMF assignments may involve public policy and administration, domestic or international issues, information technology, human resources, engineering, health and medical sciences, law, financial management, and many other fields in support of public service programs.

 Program Requirements:  Candidates must be U.S. citizens (with a few exceptions listed on website) and receive graduate degrees by August 31, 2012.  Qualified non-citizens may contact pmfapplication@opm.gov to request a temporary 9-digit number to use for social security number during application.

 Deadline: The on-line application for the PMF Class of 2012 will open on Thursday, September 15, 2011 and close on Sunday, September 25, 2011.

 Application Process:  Between Sept. 15 and Sun., Sept. 25, 2011 apply through USAJOBS by submitting resume; online questionnaire (includes biographical information, preferences for geographical placement and assessment center preferences, veterans preference eligibility, and demonstration of key skills and competencies) and documentation for Veteran’s Preference if claimed.  Also, print Nomination Form and submit to your school’s Nomination Official.  The Official will conduct a competitive nomination process using criteria such as breadth/quality of accomplishments, capacity for leadership and commitment to excellence in leadership and management of public policies and programs, and provide PMF with recommendations by Sept. 30, 2011.  Between Oct. 1 and 10, those recommended will take a timed on-line assessment (includes situational judgment test inquiring how you would respond in a given situation; life experience questionnaire, requiring response to questions regarding training, experience, education and life history; and written essay in response to a prompt or target topic).

1L, 2L Students – Job Description: ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­ Assist in-house attorneys in managing all aspects of high volume product liability litigation including factual investigation and analysis, discovery, research, file management, and interaction with employees and outside counsel.  Strong written and oral communication skills and sensitivity to confidentiality issues is required.  Demonstrated interest in litigation, product liability, or trial preparation is preferred.  Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and Windows XP is beneficial.

Law and Leadership Institute seeks law student teachers – details below

LLI Academic Year Program—Teaching Position (Contractor)

The Law and Leadership Institute, LLC (LLI) seeks law student teachers who are excellent presenters, organized, and reliable for the 2011-2012 Academic Year Program.  LLI introduces promising high school students from under-served urban communities in Akron, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton and Toledo to the legal profession through an intensive college preparatory program on law and leadership.  Students enrolled in the program gain critical academic skills in studying, writing and test-taking, in addition to the development of self-confidence, instruction in the college application process and interaction with positive role models to encourage and nurture their educational and professional goals.  LLI is dedicated to helping its students achieve success as future college and law students, and as leaders in their communities and professions.

 Contract Teachers will receive $115 each teaching session for teaching 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade students.  The 2011-2012 Academic Year Program will consist of a total of 10 five-hour teaching sessions (including a 1-hour lunch). The classes are held at the law school and will be scheduled on Saturdays or in the evenings. Classes will begin after October 1, 2011. Contract Teachers must be law students in good standing and will be required to satisfy a background check.  Prior teaching experience is preferred.  Completing a background check and Independent Contractor form is also required. 

 LLI will provide:

  • Curriculum, Classroom forms and materials
  • Class roster (after registration period is complete)
  • LLI Evaluation materials

 Contract Teachers will be given curriculum to review in advance of the start of the 2011-2012 Academic Year Program and MUST attend a MANDATORY video conference training to be held the week of September 19th.

 Contract Teachers will also be responsible for monitoring their class at lunch and on a limited number of field trips (although professional volunteers may also be available during those times).

Attorneys from two major NE Ohio law firms and law students who have been through the interview process in the past will offer their insight and advice. Whether you are interviewing now or will be in the future, you will get useful information at this workshop.
