Job Description – The Law Department of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation is staffed by 29 lawyers and an additional 50 support personnel. Housed within the Cleveland Clinic’s Law Department are the legal staffs of the affiliated hospitals of the Cleveland Clinic Health System. The attorneys practice law in a wide variety of practice areas including medical malpractice, risk management, hospital law, clinical research, medical education, commercial transactions, real property, tax- exempt organizations, fraud and abuse, managed care contracting, labor and employment, and corporate compliance.

The summer associates are required to complete a prescribed regimen of hand-on-activities in all of the major areas of practice. The clerks are given the opportunity to attend various hospital committee meetings and are also required to participate in half-day internships in the Ombudsman Department, Media Relations, Medical Records, CCF Innovations and the operating room.

Qualifications – Cleveland Clinic’s Law Department is now accepting applications from second year law students for the 2011 Summer Associate Program. Special consideration will be given to those law students who demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in the health care field.

By way of background, U.S. Navy JAGs serve as attorneys and naval officers.
