Later this semester, we will be hosting BYU LawStories on the MainStage, a storytelling event open to students from all law schools. Participants are asked to submit a nonfiction narrative of 1000-1500 words melding law, personal experience, and storytelling. A panel of judges will select ten stories from among the submissions. Storytellers from other law schools will be awarded an expense-paid trip to visit us here in Utah to participate in the MainStage events.

Each of the storytellers will present their stories in a public event to be held at the law school. Before their presentations, they will receive a half-day seminar taught by Sam Payne, host of The Apple Seed, a national radio show on storytelling. At the conclusion of the seminar, the participants will record their stories for broadcast at the BYU Radio studios. After the campus-based events conclude, the participating storytellers will travel to Moab to visit one of Utah’s iconic national parks.

Storytelling training materials, including those contributed by The Leadership Story Lab, are available through the BYU LawStories website. Recordings of some of last year’s MainStage storytellers can be found using the same link.

The Ohio State Bar Association Section on Labor and Employment Law is pleased to announce the 2018 Student Writing Competition.

 

The Competition was created to encourage relevant and innovative scholarly works in the area of Labor and Employment, and to attract Ohio law students to the labor and employment law practice fields. A judging committee comprised of distinguished practicing attorneys and faculty members at Ohio ABA-accredited law schools will review the submissions and award first, second, and third-place cash prizes to the winning student-authors.

 

The cash prizes for such competition has been established as follows:

First Place: $3,000; Second Place: $2,000; and Third Place: $1,000.

 

Funding for the Competition is sponsored by the Ohio State Bar Association Section on Labor and Employment Law—an energized community of over 1,300 lawyers representing employees, labor unions, and employers in Ohio.

 

Please share this opportunity with students who may be interested in participating. All students at ABA-accredited law schools in Ohio are invited to submit entries, pursuant to the rules of the

Competition detailed below. For all purposes of this Competition, Northern Kentucky University (NKU)-Chase is considered an Ohio law school.
