The College of Labor and Employment Lawyers is pleased to announce the Annual Law Student Writing Competition 2020-2021, which is co-sponsored by the ABA Section of Labor & Employment Law. It is our hope to stimulate interest in this important field of law by sponsoring a writing competition among law students on legal topics of interest to practitioners in the field. Attached are the guidelines for the competition. We would appreciate it if you would inform your students about this opportunity. Notice has also been sent to the Dean of your law school, as all students, not only those currently taking labor and employment law courses, are eligible to participate.
Although a freestanding organization, the College was established in 1995 through an initiative of the Council of the Section of Labor and Employment Law of the American Bar Association. The purpose of the College was to have an organization of senior lawyers, well regarded at the Bar, who would promote achievement and excellence in our area of practice. As set forth in the College’s bylaws, Fellows must have been practicing labor and employment law for at least twenty years to be nominated and must be active and outstanding contributors to the labor and employment law bar.
Law schools, scholars of labor and employment law, labor and employment law historians and students can benefit greatly from the intellectual and practical value available through the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers. The College’s primary mission includes supporting creative and thoughtful teaching of Labor and Employment Law, supporting and enhancing the existing curriculum, bringing depth of real life experience to law students through visiting professor and mentoring programs, and pushing the traditional boundaries to bring the current and dramatically changing legal environment into clearer focus. We invite you to visit the Audiences section of our website (www.laborandemploymentcollege.org) and click on “Law Schools and Students.”
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Sincerely,
David Borgen
