Summer 2017 Environmental Intern Scholarship Opportunity

Summer 2017 Environmental Internship: The 2017 Summer Environmental Scholarship is sponsored by the Environmental Section of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association.

The Scholarship provides funding for upaid summer internships in either a governmental agency in environmental law work, or a non-profit organization with an environmental mission.

The Scholarship is available to law students who attend law school in northeast Ohio or those who wish to work in the region. The scholarship amounts vary depending on the funds raised and the number of applicants chosen. You must have secured an unpaid internship in order to apply for a scholarship.

The deadline to submit your application for SUMMER 2017 Environmental Internship is April 30, 2017 to obtain an application please email lawcareerplanning@uakron.edu.  The application has all applicable information for applying.

The USPTO is seeking students to fill full-time unpaid extern positions during the summer. These positions are scheduled to start mid-late May 2017.

Description: The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Trademark Law Student Intern Program is tailored for law students with an interest in trademark law and the U.S. trademark registration process, although some research may touch upon international trademark law issues and related intellectual property issues. The program is intended to give students an opportunity to experience what it is like to work at PTO, as well as interact with experts, explore opportunities and develop or enhance personal and professional skills. Opportunities may be offered in all or some of the following offices: Trademark Legal Policy Office, Trademark Petitions Office, Trademark Training and Quality Review Office, Office of the Solicitor, and/or the Trademark Trial & Appeal Board.During the Summer term, Trademarks has multiple unpaid positions available for law student externs. Externs must expect to work 40 hours per week. Externs will be provided with the necessary computer equipment, Lexis/Nexis  training, and other legal training as needed. Business casual attire is required.

Duties: Student Trainees (Law) are assigned to different business units in Trademarks, including examination, the administrative appeal board, quality review and training, and legal policy and petitions. You may be responsible for providing the following legal and administrative support activities, among others: handling research requests from examining attorneys, senior attorneys, managing attorneys to determine the registrability of trademarks under the Trademark Act (Lanham Act), researching and drafting legal memos on questions arising from new case law, participating in new examining attorney training activities, and researching issues presented in cases before the administrative board. Additionally, throughout the summer, student trainees generally participate in a speaker series with officials at the Agency as well as planned visits to local courthouses and related government offices.

Qualifications: 1L, 2L. Must be a U.S. Citizen or National. Undergraduate degree should be science oriented. Must be interested in Patents/Intellectual Property.
