Memphis, TN – Summer 2017 Law Student Internship – St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

Memphis, TN – Summer 2017 Law Student Internship – St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

AkronLawJobs No. 8002 Overview: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is a world-class research hospital treating children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases and conducting research on those diseases.

About the internship/duties: Legal interns at St. Jude spend a summer immersed in a unique culture where basic, translational, and clinical research are all housed on the same campus in a robust hospital; where biochemists, computational biologists, geneticists, and statisticians routinely interact with medical and research specialists in infectious diseases, oncology, pharmacology, radiology, surgery, and hematology (including sickle cell disease). Interns will work with a number of lawyers, both in-house and (with supervision) outside counsel, on substantive projects in many aspects of the law – some of which will depend on the intern’s interests – including health law, business transactions, risk management, international law, intellectual property, commercial transactions, labor and employment, clinical trials, grants and contracts, and even shaping law and regulations at the State and Federal levels. As part of the intern experience, each intern will tour and learn about legal issues related to patient housing, clinics, Children’s GMP, and Environmental Health and Safety, and will have training in Export Control and HIPAA. Interns also have worked in depth with the Office of Technology Licensing, Managed Care, and Environmental Health and Safety. We take our mentoring obligations very seriously (and enjoy it!), so every assignment comes with plenty of context and follow-through opportunities for the interns, and client interaction is plentiful. Moreover, interns will find themselves routinely included in meetings of all types for  educational purposes. Every past intern has given our program remarkably high scores, according to their respective law schools.

Please note: To prevent conflicts of interest, we do not accept students who have relatives working at St. Jude, except in extraordinary circumstances.

Please note: This is an unpaid internship. Please see Assistant Dean Alisa Benedict O’Brien in the Career Planning and Placement Center for ideas on funding this position.

Qualifications: 2L or part-time 3L.

How to apply:    Please note your undergraduate, graduate (if applicable), and law school GPA’s in your resume.  Please send your resume and cover letter to:  lawcareerplanning@uakron.edu ADDRESSED TO Dr. McGehee Marsh, Senior Counsel, Office of Legal Services, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, MS 280, Memphis, TN 38105 by February 9, 2017, for consideration.

It is crucial that the cover letter addresses why the applicant wishes to have an internship at St. Jude, the Intern’s expectations, and why the intern believes they “belong” here.

Deadline: February 9, 2017 (e-mailed to lawcareerplanning@uakron.edu)

2017 Loyola Patent Law Interview Program Registration Begins February 6, 2017

To:                          All Law Students Returning for Fall Semester 2017

Re:                         2017 Loyola Patent Law Interview Program Registration

What:                   Loyola University Chicago School of Law is hosting the 2017 Patent Law Interview Program.

When:                  August 3 and 4, 2017.  Student registration will begin on February 6, 2017 and end on March 10, 2017.  We will provide additional information about student registration next month.

Where: Chicago, IL – Loyola University School of Law

Who:                     You do not need to be patent bar eligible to register for the Patent Law Interview Program. However, many employers make patent bar eligibility a requirement for bidding, and most employers prefer patent bar eligible students. Although a number of employers indicate on their registration forms that they are willing to interview students who are not patent bar eligible, it is our experience that non-patent bar eligible students are generally disappointed as they do not receive many interviews or job offers through the Patent Law Interview Program. Students who will graduate before the program is held in August 2017 and students who plan to graduate after May/June 2019 are not eligible for the 2017 Patent Law Interview Program.

Cost:                      You will need to pay your own expenses – travel, hotel and food.  The School of Law will pay your $35 registration fee

Register:             For additional information, and to register beginning February 6, 2017, when registration opens, follow this link:  2017 Registration
