The Expungement Clinic helps low-income Summit County residents seal the record of their criminal convictions. A sealed record enables many people better access to jobs, housing, and volunteer opportunities. Students will learn integral skills in the legal field including record searches, reading court dockets, completing applications to file with the court, and interviewing real clients.

Travel to Summit or Mahoning County jails once a week, meet with inmates who have legal questions, and research and draft letters back to the inmates. Our clinic graduates use their skills in civil and criminal contexts as Public Defenders, County Prosecutors, Legal Aid lawyers, judicial law clerks, and civil practitioners.

Duties: A clerkship at Kegler Brown is primarily designed to give our summer associates an authentic experience and to show them what it’s like to practice at our firm. We focus on the long-term development of our summer associates instead of providing a task-based experience that offers only a limited view of what it really means to be a lawyer. Our summer program is designed to provide insights that will help you craft a meaningful practice— you’ll become fully immersed into our team, work directly with our attorneys on client projects and learn what it means to build a career at Kegler Brown.
Qualifications: 1L, Top 25% rank, and 3.3 GPA or higher.
