2L students: your Certificate of Dean is Ready for Pick Up

For all 2L students:

Your Certificate of Dean packet for your Ohio Bar Exam Application to Register as a Candidate for Admission is ready for pick up at the reception desk of the Law Dean’s Office.

The packet includes your Certificate of Dean, one (1) official transcript (if we had a transcript on file), and a fingerprint card. Please make an appointment to have your fingerprints taken as required by the Supreme Court of Ohio: http://www.supremecourt.ohio.gov/AttySvcs/admissions/application/default.asp

This packet is only part of the information required to complete your Application to Register as a Candidate for Admission.  Please make sure the information contained in this packet accompanies the additional material required by the Supreme Court (see: http://www.supremecourt.ohio.gov/AttySvcs/admissions/application/default.asp)

The completed application is due in Columbus, Ohio at the Supreme Court Office of Bar Admissions BY: November 17, 2014.

A photo ID is required, and we request that you open and review the contents for accuracy before you leave the Dean’s office.

Attention December 2014 JD Degree Candidates

ATTENTION December 2014 JD Degree Candidates:

VERY IMPORTANTAny changes to your Character and Fitness from your original law school application must be reported to our office by Wednesday, October 15.  Your Character and Fitness MUST BE updated and accurate for us to complete your Character Certificate that is due with your application to the Supreme Court of Ohio NO LATER THAN Monday, November 3 if you plan to take the Ohio February Bar Exam. Character Certificates will be ready for pick up at the receptionist desk in the Law Dean’s Office on Monday, October 20.  This will include any updates to Character and Fitness you have submitted to us by October 15.

The Bar Review Course Fellowship amount has changed to 100% of your out of pocket expenses up to a maximum of $2,250 (the reimbursement does not include reimbursable deposits).  We will begin processing reimbursements weekly after your exit interview with Career Planning and Placement Director, Alisa Benedict-O’Brien.

Candidates who successfully complete their degree requirements in time to graduate will have a degree conferral date of January 10, 2015.  Diplomas will be available for pick up beginning January 12, 2015, and they will be mailed on January 19 if they have not been picked up.  Please remember that a photo ID is required for pick up. Also, please update your address in ‘My Akron’ or submit your address to me to assure we mail your degree to the appropriate location.

2014-15 Beveridge & Diamond Constitutional Environmental Law Writing Competition

The Environmental Law Institute (ELI) is pleased to announce the 2014-15 Beveridge & Diamond Constitutional Environmental Law Writing Competition: 2014-15 BD Writing Comp Announcement.

Organized by ELI and the National Association of Environmental Law Societies (NAELS), this annual competition invites law students from across the country to submit papers exploring current issues of constitutional environmental law. Our goal is to inform the ongoing debate about the constitutional legitimacy of environmental laws and to recognize students who have advanced the state of scholarship through original analysis of cutting-edge topics. The winner receives a $2000 cash prize, public recognition, an offer of publication in ELI’s flagship journal, the Environmental Law Reporter 2014-15 BD Writing Comp Announcement(ELR), and a one-year individual membership to ELI.

Last year’s competition produced winner Paul Stewart of Wayne State University. His article, “The Overlooked Vulnerabilities of State-Level Greenhouse Gas Regulations Under Pike Balancing and Possibilities for Addressing Those Vulnerabilities,” will appear in the December 2014 issue of ELR.

6/13/14 – Student Writing Competition from NY State Bar Assoc Committee on Animals

The New York State Bar Association Committee on Animals and the Law is pleased to announce its 2014 Student Writing Competition. The deadline for submission is July 1, 2014.

Law students are invited to submit to the Committee an article concerning any area of Animal Law. All submissions will be reviewed by a panel of attorneys and other professionals practicing or otherwise involved in animal law. The first place winner will receive $1,000 and a certificate of achievement. The second place winner will receive $500 and a certificate of achievement.
