The Substance Abuse Lecture is Today

The Spring 2017 Substance Abuse Lecture is today!  You can fulfill this requirement now for the rest of the time you are in law school, or have your final opportunity to attend a free lecture if you haven’t yet attended and plan to graduate in Spring 2017.

Spring 2017 Substance Abuse Lecture

Date:  Wednesday, February 1

Time: 5:20 – 6:20 pm    *Please note:  ARRIVE EARLY to sign in – there will be no admittance after 5:20 pm.

Location:  McDowell Law Center Room 160

Your attendance is verified by your signing the attendance sheet as you enter the lecture.  Doors will open at 5:00 pm, and no one is admitted after the lecture has begun.  Akron Law hosts this free lecture twice each year, at the beginning of the spring and fall semesters.

The Substance Abuse Lecture is required for anyone who plans take the Ohio Bar at any time in the future.  You may attend this lecture during any semester you are in law school, and we will verify your attendance with the Supreme Court of Ohio when you graduate.

Grad Fair for the Class of 2017

Mark your calendar for the annual Grad Fair on Wednesday, March 8th!  If you are a member of the graduating class of 2017, please plan to attend.

At the Grad Fair, you will be able to

  • order your Commencement cap, gown, and hood as well as other Commencement items
  • meet with Dean Fuller and the Student Services Team for a final audit of your degree clearance for your degree
  • have your professional head shot photo taken if you did not do so before exams in the fall 2016 semester
  • meet with the Career Planning office
  • pick up your Character Certificate if you have not already done so
  • ask any questions you may have!

July 2017 Ohio Bar Information

April 3, 2017 is the deadline for filing your application to take the July 2017 Ohio bar exam.  

The following certificate forms for the Ohio Bar Examination have approaching deadlines.  These forms must be certified by the law school, then submitted to the Court so that eligibility to sit for the Ohio Bar Examination may be established. Please check these upcoming deadlines and be sure to submit any bar forms you may need with time allowed for processing by Student Services.

Law School Character Certificate:

Please make sure you are current with any Amendments to Application updating your Character and Fitness items since you started law school.  Your Law School Character Certificate will be completed with any character/fitness items you have submitted, so please submit any updates by Monday, February 13th.  You will include your Character Certificate in your application packet to the Court due by April 3rd.  The deadline to be received (not postmarked) at the Court as per their website: Important Dates.

The dates for the July 2017 Ohio bar exam are July 25, 26, and 27, 2017.

Final Law School Certificate:

We will prepare your Final Certificate and mail it to the Bar Admissions Office of the Supreme Court of Ohio the week following Commencement.

Substance Abuse Instruction Certificate:

You do not need to submit this form to us for completion.  If you attended one of the lectures here at Akron Law, we include the completion of this one hour substance abuse lecture on your Final Law School Certificate.    Substance abuse lectures are available twice a year at Akron Law, once in the spring semester, and once in the fall semester.

The next Substance Abuse Lecture will be on Wednesday, February 1, in Room 160 in McDowell Law Center  from 5:20 – 6:20 pm.  Please arrive early to sign in.  The lecture will begin promptly at 5:20 pm, and we cannot admit anyone who arrives late.

If you do not attend the lecture on February 1st at Akron Law, make-up lectures are not available through The University of Akron School of Law.  Lectures are scheduled through Ohio State Bar Association (OSBA) online course option for a fee. Their office phone is 1-800-282-6556.
