Winter Grads: Post-Graduation Use of Lexis Advance, Westlaw, and Bloomberg Law

You still have access to these great databases for some time after graduation!

Westlaw

See this brief video:  3 Things for 3-Ls on Westlaw by our Westlaw rep, Sam Berbano.  The video shows how to: get post-graduate access to Westlaw, easily download your folder contents and use Westlaw to pass the bar.

Graduating students can extend Westlaw access for 6 months after graduation by registering for Grad Elite at https://lawschool.westlaw.com/registration/gradelite.aspx.  Registered graduates will retain full Westlaw access for a total of 60 hours.  If you fail to extend your password you are restricted to 10 hours per month and it will expire earlier.  All graduates will also automatically retain access to lawschool.westlaw.com and a number of career-related databases (on Profiler)  for 12 months following graduation.  Please contact our West Account Manager, Sam Berbano, samuel.berbano@thomsonreuters.com if you have any questions.

LexisNexis

  • Access: Winter graduates have access to Lexis Advance via their law school IDs for six months after graduation. This ID also grants  access to the Graduate Home Page (detailed below).
  • LexisNexis Rewards Point Expiration: Winter graduates have until January 31, 2017 to redeem their LexisNexis Rewards points.
  • Graduate Home Page: On February 1st the winter graduates’ view of the Law School Home Page will switch from the current view to the graduate view. This new view will provide helpful information for your career and job search. It will also award you 10,000 Graduate Rewards points that can be redeemed for LexisNexis eBooks and online subscriptions for Lexis Practice Advisor, Lexis for Microsoft Office, and Law360.
  • Aspire Program:  Graduates conducting verifiable 501(c)(3) public interest work may sign up for the Lexis ASPIRE Program for extended access to some items.  Please contact our Lexis Account Representative, Jennifer Durkin, at jennifer.durkin@lexisnexis.com, if you have any questions.

Bloomberg Law

Graduates automatically keep full access to Bloomberg Law through their individual account for six months following graduation.  Please contact our Bloomberg Law School Relationship Manager, Chris Bartkowski, at cbartkowski@bna.com, if you have any questions.

Print and Audio Study Aids – Circulation and Fine Changes for Reading/Exam Period

The circulation period and overdue fines for OASP materials and Sum and Substance audio materials will change for the Reading/Exam Period. Starting on Friday, December 2, these materials will circulate for only 1 day (instead of 72 hours) and no renewals will be allowed. Overdue fines for these materials will increase from $1.00 per day to $5.00 per day.

If you have questions regarding these changes please contact the library at (330) 972-7330, email: ualawlibrary@uakron.edu or stop by Central Hower Room 322.

And don’t forget about the online West Academic Study Aids and  Akron Law Digital which provide 24/7 access to study aids.  And no worries about fines!

Contact the Library by December 2 to get Fine Amnesty

The Law Library is hosting a fine amnesty event through December 2, 2016, to welcome patrons and materials back to the library.  Don’t let library fines stop you from registering for classes!

  • If students have library fines, we will waive them. Please contact the library by phone ((330)972-7330), email (ualawlibrary@uakron.edu) or in person at 322 Central Hower Building to request fine amnesty.  Requests must be made by December 2, 2016.
  • If students have overdue materials, they can return them and we will waive the overdue fines.
  • We will help find the lowest cost replacement item for any lost materials.
  • We can immediately lift PeopleSoft holds so that students can register for classes.

Here’s the fine print:

  • No refunds on previously paid library fines.
  • Amnesty is available for students only.

If you have any questions about the amnesty event or you want to see if you have outstanding fines or overdue items, please contact the library. (By phone ((330)972-7330), email (ualawlibrary@uakron.edu) or in person at 322 Central Hower Building).

Use CALI Lessons to Study for Finals

As final exams approach, students might consider taking a CALI lesson for review or to get a grip on elusive concepts. (Rule Against Perpetuities, anyone?).  CALI lessons are interactive tutorials written by law professors and librarians.

If you have not created a CALI account, here is how:

1. Get the Authorization Code by clicking on this link and entering your UAnet ID and university password.

2. Go to CALI’s website (http://www.cali.org ) and click on “Create New Account.”   Follow the instructions on that web page and enter the CALI authorization code when prompted.

If you have any questions or problems, contact Sue Altmeyer, saltmeyer@uakron.edu, (330)972-7764, Law Library in Central Hower Room 322.
