Laptops are available for checkout in Central Hower Room 322.   You can check out a laptop for eight hours at a time.  They can not be used for ExamSoft purposes.  More information on checking out a laptop is on the library homepage.

The Lexis printer is currently in transit to Central Hower, and is no longer available at the Law Center.  We will post a notice on this blog when the Lexis printer is up and running.  In the meantime, the library staff at Central Hower Room 322 will print out documents from Lexis for law students at no charge.  The library staff may, in its discretion, deny enormously excessive requests for printouts.

If you are writing a paper this semester, the library can help.  You can:

1. Look at Library Research Guides – These online guides link directly to sources within Lexis, Westlaw and Bloomberg Law that can help you narrow your paper topic and conduct research.  There are also links to CCH, BNA, HeinOnline and other databases you might be unfamiliar with.  Our guides also point out free Internet sources that you might not necessarily come across by Googling.  There are guides for specific topic areas, like Family Law, First Amendment and Current Issues in Intellectual Property, as well as a general guide for Law Review & Upper Level Papers.

2. Meet with a reference librarian.  Reference librarians are available in Central Hower Room 322 from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday.  Librarians are also available via phone or email.   You can also make an appointment with Ms. Passmore, Ms. Souare or Ms. Altmeyer and let them know what you are working on, so they may pull sources for you ahead of time.  Contact information for the library staff.

 

Taking Evidence?  Need trial or appellate training videos? LexisNexis Courtroom Cast has short videos explaining the Rules of Evidence and showing real courtroom examples.  There are also trial and appellate advocacy videos.

New West Academic Link: In case you missed it over the summer, West Academic Study Aids has a new link.  This link allows you to access West Academic e-books off campus with your UAnet Id and password.  You are no longer required to have your own account to West Academic, but creating an account allows you to save your notes and highlights, save favorites and see recently viewed titles.  If you created an account in the past, your account will still work.

Additionally, West Academic now provides online access to 43 West Hornbooks.  Hornbooks provide straightforward analysis, are written by experts in the field and are often recommended by law professors. Flashcards for Contracts and Torts are also now available, as are the Law Stories series.  As always, West Academic contains Gilbert Law Summaries, Sum and Substance titles, and Black Letter Outlines, among other study aids.

First Years: If you are a first year, all the online study aids are new to you!  Besides West Academic, the following online study aids are available for your use:

LexisNexis Courtroom Cast – MP3 audio files of cases in your casebook, full-text of the edited opinion, a brief fact summary, and the rule of law.

 

 

The law library is now officially located on the third floor of the Central Hower building, 123 S. Forge Street, Room 322.  You can check out your case book and CD and MP3 study aids in Room 322, get help with your research and use the library’s print mini collection.  There is additional study space in Room 309 of Central Hower.  See this 2 minute video for more details.
