The first open forum will be held this Thursday, February 16th from 4:15 p.m – 5 p.m. in School of Law Room 140. Stay tuned for the other upcoming forums.

The University of Akron is again hosting “Rethinking Race” – an annual series of race-related programming options, this year with over 50 events scheduled! Rethinking Race takes place over two weeks, from February 3rd to February 19th. The full calendar of events is here.
Many of the events are law-related or sponsored by Law School organizations or faculty. Here are some highlights:
Friday, February 3rd at 6:00 p.m
Student Union Theater
This is a powerful documentary by Ave DuVernay about the racial impact of the criminal justice system since the passage of the 13th Amendment.
Monday, February 6th, 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm
E.J. Thomas Hall
Since her famous classroom exercises with White students during the Civil Rights movement, keynote speaker Jane Elliot has been an internationally known teacher and trainer on the nature of prejudice.
Thursday, February 9th, 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Quaker Station
Dr. Banaji is one of the principal researchers behind the Implicit Association Tests that have exposed the extensive distribution of implicit bias along a broad spectrum of characteristics.
Tuesday, February 14th, 5:00 to 7:00 pm
Speed-dating style conversations with Muslims, presented by the Law School’s Social Justice Project, with the support of the Muslim Law Students Association.
Tuesday, February 14th, 12:30 to 2:00 pm
A panel on civility and civil rights sponsored by the Black Law Students Association and moderated by Professor Lee.

Please join us at Akron Law’s annual Alumni Awards and Class Reunion Dinner on Friday, May 13 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. A limited number of complimentary tickets have been reserved for students, and they will be awarded on a first to respond basis. This year’s Outstanding Alumni Award recipients include: Jane L. Hackemeyer (’80), Jacqueline Silas-Butler (’84), and The Honorable Thomas A. Teodosio (’82). The Honorary Alumni Award will also be presented to Margaret McDowell Lloyd.
Attendance at the Alumni Dinner affords a great opportunity to meet and network with Akron Law alumni of many generations. We hope to see you there!
Professor Lee’s Social Justice Meeting Cancelled
Our meeting for April 11th has been cancelled. We will meet again on Monday, April 25th for the final meeting of the semester.
