Alumni Tailgate Event – Sept. 4 – Tickets Available

The Office of External Programs is coordinating an alumni tailgate for the ZIPS/Syracuse game on September 4. The tailgate begins at 4 p.m. and kickoff is 6 p.m. Students (our “alums-in-waiting”) are welcome to join with alumni at this event. The price for alumni and their families and friends is $25/person ($20 for a reserved seat ticket and $5 for the tailgate which includes food from Rockne’s, pop and water). There will be no alcohol at this event. Students may either (1) pay $25/person to ensure seating with alumni in a reserved section, or (2) pay $5/person for food only as students receive free general admission to games in the student sections. SBA is collecting responses and reservations may be made through SBA President JJ Hammerle (jjhammerle@gmail.com). Deadline for ordering tickets is noon on Monday, August 30. Reservations may be made by check, cash, or credit card (MasterCard, VISA, Discover). Checks may be made payable to The University of Akron School of Law.

Career Networking Opportunities

Career Networking Opportunity – As you may know, Akron Law regularly hosts alumni outreach events in various cities where our alumni reside and work. All students are welcome to attend alumni city visits. In addition, to allow for greater student participation, the Office of External Programs has allocated funds to support student travel to these events. If the number of student requests exceeds the amount available, travel reimbursement requests will be determined by a lottery. Student reimbursement for these events will be made at a maximum of $150 per student for events held within Ohio and a maximum of $250 per student for events held outside Ohio for reimbursement of travel expenses.

Students who are interested in attending these events and wish to receive travel reimbursement must respond by submitting their name and city of interest by 6 p.m. on Tuesday, September 7, 2010.  Students may submit their names for reimbursement for multiple events, but will only be available for one reimbursement.  (Winning the lottery for one event automatically excludes an individual for a chance to be reimbursed for another event. No prioritizing or selecting is allowed.)  Again, students are welcome to attend as many events as they like at no cost for the meal but without travel reimbursement.

Please note:  Attendance at these events are not excused absences from class.  Interested students should contact their professors before agreeing to attend to determine how any such absence will be treated.  If you are interested in attending one of these events and/or being considered for reimbursement, please respond to Jeanne Kennedy (jeanne2@uakron.edu) by 6 p.m. on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 and include:

            Your name
            Your e-mail address
            The city(ies) of interest
