You are invited to the 17th Annual Rebellious Lawyering Conference, which will take place on the weekend of February 18-20, 2011.  Last year, we brought over 700 practitioners, law students, and community activists to New Haven to discuss progressive strategies for social change within and without the law, and we’re excited to do it again! Summer Jobs at the U.S. Attorneys Office in Cleveland, Akron and Youngstown

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Cleveland and Akron has an outstanding summer program and they are currently accepting applications from full time 2nd years and part-time 3rd year students.  Applications are due by January 14, 2011. Although these positions are unpaid, they provide great experience. Students are required to work 32 hours per week for 10 weeks which would qualify students to receive 3 hours of credit in Clinical Seminar I. Students can also apply for funding through Akron Law’s public interest program. For more details and application instructions, log on to Symplicity and go to Job Number 2092.  Submit your materials by January 14.

Midwest Public Interest Law Career Conference – Sign up today

Midwest Public Interest Law Career Conference –  All first, second and third year law students at Akron Law are invited to participate in the 22nd Annual Midwest Public Interest Law Career Conference (MPILCC) to be held on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Northwestern University School of Law in Chicago. The Career Planning Office will pay the registration fee for students to attend the conference. Students are responsible for their own travel and lodging arrangements. The Conference offers students the opportunity to:

  • Interview with a variety of public interest and government employers for summer law clerk and entry-level attorney positions (employers will pre-screen resumes and select students to interview). Though most of the opportunities are unpaid or invite outside funding, there are positions that often a stipend. Since most of the employers come mainly from the Midwest, students may find positions in the communities they seek to serve.
  • Meet with employers during Table Talk, a morning session where employers and students informally and share information. Employers may, distribute brochures, newsletters and other organizational literature.
  • Respond to employer job postings (resume requests) for internships (volunteer or paid), fellowship, and entry-level positions. This service is available throughout the school year at the MPILCC Symplicity.com site to students registered for the MPILCC Career Conference.

Law and Leadership Institute Seeks Law Student – Spring 2011 Semester

The Law and Leadership Institute seeks a first year (part-time only) or second-year law student to assist the Akron site supervisor with administrative tasks to support the program. The position would be from January 2011 through May 2011 with the potential to continue in the summer. The student would work 10 hours per week and be paid $2500.000 for the semester.
