Are you interested in becoming a Student Trustee?

Applications are now being accepted from current University of Akron students interested in serving as a student member on The University of Akron Board of Trustees. Student Trustees will be expected to attend the meetings of the Board of Trustees and actively participate in Board matters.

Applicants can be undergraduate, graduate, or law students who are able to fulfill the two-year term before graduating from the University.

Applications, resume and letter of intent stating the reasons for seeking the position are due Friday, March 20, at 5 p.m. to the Undergraduate Student Government Office (Student Union 307a).

OSBA announces 2015 law student Public Service Internship Initiative

​The Ohio State Bar Association Litigation Section 2015 Public Service Internship Initiative supports law students who are committed to public service. Under the initiative, the Litigation Section will award $1,600 to one student at an Ohio law school and $1,600 to an Ohio resident attending any law school in the United States of America to help underwrite the cost of their summer public sector or public interest internships. While it is not necessary to secure an internship prior to applying, disbursement is contingent on obtaining a placement with a public sector or public interest employer.

Applicant eligibility
1. The applicant must be: (1) a law student attending an Ohio law school or (2) a law student who is an Ohio resident attending law school anywhere in the United States of America.
2. The applicant must wish to practice in Ohio after law school.

Evaluation criteria
Applications will be evaluated based on the applicant’s demonstrated commitment to public service and the quality of the essay submission.

Application process
To apply, please submit the following materials to Melissa Quick, Ohio State Bar Association, P.O. Box 16562, 1700 Lake Shore Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43216 postmarked no later than April 10, 2015:
1. Cover letter;
2. Resume (without grade information);
3. Essay in response to the following question: “Describe your commitment to public service. How have your past interests and work experiences contributed to your proposed summer internship responsibilities?” While it is not necessary to secure an internship prior to applying, applicants should include information pertaining to their internship prospects. The essay should be no longer than two double-spaced pages. The essay must also be in Times New Roman font and have one-inch margins.

Award recipients will be announced on June 5, 2015.

The Cook County Bar Association (“CCBA”) is pleased to invite your school’s minority law students to participate in the 32nd Annual Minority Law Student Job Fair (the “Job Fair”). In an effort to keep the student-to-employer ratio as low as possible, we are only inviting J.D. students in the classes of 2016 and 2017 (rising 3L and 2L students). The Job Fair typically attracts more than 500 students from the eligible law schools. Each year law firms, corporations, and governmental agencies register for the Job Fair. These employers are located primarily in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Washington D.C. In addition, we have several employers registered from Colorado, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. Akron Bar Diversity Committee Minority Summer Clerkship

A joint project of the Akron Bar Association Diversity Committee
and The University of Akron School of Law

The Career Planning Office announces the 2015 Summer Minority Clerkship Program (the “Program”). All full-time first year (who have completed up to 29 credit hours) and part-time second-year (who have completed 23-44 credit hours) minority law students are eligible to apply to participate in the Program.

Initiated in 1990 by the Akron Bar Association, the Program has been very successful over the years. Now co-sponsored by the University of Akron School of Law, the Program is designed to provide real-world work experience for minority students in area law firms, corporations, government agencies, and courts. The ultimate goal is increased minority involvement in all aspects of the practice of law in the greater Akron community.

All full-time first year and second year minority students in good academic standing are eligible to apply to participate in the Program. For your information, the Program timetable is below.

We encourage all eligible students to apply for participation in the Program. The Program will not only give you the opportunity to gain valuable legal experience, it will also afford you the ability to make informed decisions about your future by providing an insider’s view of what it is like to practice law.

Interested students can pick up an application in the Career Planning Office.

2015 MINORITY CLERKSHIP PROGRAM TIMETABLE

Early April TBD- Program Interviews– All students must participate in an interview with the Diversity Committee and Program Employers.

End of April- Offers extended to those students accepted in to the Program and Diversity Committee to inform employers of their placement.
