Inmate Assistance Program

Seeking students to work in the Inmate Assistance Program paid position – $9.50 per hour up to 20 hours per week. Student will travel to Summit County jail once a week, every week, on Tuesday mornings, meet with inmates who have legal questions, and research and draft letters back to the inmates.  Students interested in developing interviewing, research, and writing skills should apply. Our clinic graduates use their skills in civil and criminal contexts as Public Defenders, County Prosecutors, Legal Aid lawyers, judicial law clerks, and civil practitioners.  Students must be willing to commit to the program for one year.

Akron, OH – Law Referral & Information Service Internship – Akron Bar Association

AkronLawJobs No. 9810 Overall: The Lawyer Referral and Information Service Program connects the public with pre-screened attorneys in the legal specialization needed to fill the needs of potential clients.

The Intern’s role is to assist the LRIS Director by speaking directly with clients via the telephone, conducting intake interviews and recommending attorneys with the appropriate legal experience to resolve the clients’ legal needs. The Intern will also provide administrative assistant support to the LRIS Director as needed.

Duties: Answers the telephone and conducts client intake; Maintains files of referral updates; Administration of end of the month reports; Confirms liability insurance coverage for all LRIS members; and Researches online court dockets for unreported referred cases. The Student Intern will work ten (10) hours per week and will receive a $1,500 stipend AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE INTERNSHIP. The Internship is for the Spring 2019 semester (through May 3 excluding Spring Break week) and the incumbent can be reappointed for subsequent semesters.

Qualifications: 1L, 2L, or 3L. The ideal candidate has excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to deal with clients of all demeanors. Knowledge of the Windows operating environment, Microsoft Office, and general database usage is required.
