Community Legal Aid now seeking law students for their 2013 Summer Program – Akron Community Legal Aid will be on-campus to interview students for their 2013 Summer Program on Thursday, March 14thLegal Aid is looking for dedicated, hard-working, and public-interest minded students for its Summer Program. Legal Aid has opportunities available for 2L’s (with or without intern certificate) and 1L’s.  Law Students who are applying to participate in the Summer Intern Program are expected to work unpaid for at least 10 weeks and may work up to 13 weeks. Students may apply for funding through the Law School Public Interest program or the Akron Bar Foundation Fellowship program. More information on funding sources is available in the CPPO.
  Applicants must list their top two project preferences in their cover letter (see 2013 Summer Program position descriptions at the link below) and describe why they are interested and what they hope to experience. Cover letters which do not indicate preferences may not receive full consideration.
  Law Students will work in different areas of the law and have different experiences. Generally, Law Students may expect to interview clients, draft client letters, draft court pleadings, research relevant legal issues, attend and assist with court hearings, assist with discovery and analyze evidence, and complete various other tasks as assigned.
  All Law Students will receive training in substantive areas of poverty law, meet with judges involved and may observe court hearings. There will also be brown bag lunches with current Legal Aid lawyers and community members. Past participants have included judges, a civil rights attorney, and leaders of local non-profit agencies.  Please submit a completed Application, resume, writing sample and references to the Career Planning Office.  Application forms and additional information are available in the Career Planning Office or online at http://www.communitylegalaid.org/intern-positions. The Summit County Association for Justice invites all Akron Law students to attend a lunch meeting on March 13 at 12 noon at the offices of the Akron Bar Association (57 South Broadway, Akron). The topic is working with Worker’s Compensation Counsel for the Mutual Benefit of the Client. This is a great networking opportunity for all law students interested in litigation, especially plaintiff’s work. You will have a chance to meet some of Akron’s best plaintiff’s lawyers. Ever been to an event where there’s one speaker, and you’d like to network and ask them questions after the event, but you can’t because someone else beats you to the punch, and you have to leave for class? Well at this speed networking event, you will have the opportunity to meet every attorney that is there! (and there will be many). The number of attorneys that come depend on how many students sign up! Like speed-dating, everyone will have a few minutes to talk with every lawyer that is there, and then we’ll open it up for an informal meet & greet. Punch and snacks provided. Information about various funding sources and handouts about the clinics will also be available.
