 About the Opening

The Law Clerk works in FirstEnergy’s Corporate Headquarters located in Akron, Ohio.  The Law Clerk conducts legal research as assigned by attorneys and analyzes research data such as statutes, decisions, legal articles, codes and documents.  This position involves legal writing, assistance with litigation matters and regulatory filings with occasional delivering and filing of legal documents.  The Law Clerk checks legal forms and documents for accuracy, organizes and tracks case files and monitors new or updated regulations. Familiarity with administrative law or a regulatory environment preferred. 

 Summary of Qualifications

  • Currently attending Accredited Law School
  • Minimum of 2nd or 3rd year student in good academic standing
  • Experience with WestLaw
  • Able to work with minimal supervision
  • Able to work 40 hours per week during summer (June to August) and 20 hours per week during academic year (September to May 2011)

 Educational:              Applicants must be either incoming second or third year law students.

 Prior Experience:     Applicants must have a demonstrated commitment to First Amendment issues.  Preference will be given to those applicants with demonstrated involvement in scholarship or employment that promotes civil rights. 

SKILLS:

 Computer:                 Westlaw, Internet research

 Written:                      Applicant must be able to communicate effectively in writing to both legal and non-legal audiences. Applicant must be familiar with traditional legal forms of writing.

The Law and Leadership Institute seeks two law students to teach its summer program to rising ninth grade students. The Law and Leadership Institute introduces promising high school students from under-served urban communities in Akron, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton and Toledo to the legal profession through an intensive college preparatory program on law and leadership.
