SPRING ON-CAMPUS INTERVIEW – A representative from the Ohio Army National Guard JAG Corps will be conducting on-campus interviews on Thursday, February 25, 2010. They are seeking applications from 3L and recent graduates. This is a reserve component slot, i.e., not a full time job. This is not an internship. Member will work at least one weekend a month and two weeks a year in military law.

SPRING ON-CAMPUS INTERVIEW – The City of Parma, OH will be conducting on-campus interviews on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 for a volunteer law clerk opportunity. Credit available through Akron Law’s Externship Program. They are seeking applications from 2L students.

Application Materials: Resume, Cover Letter, Law School Transcript, Writing Sample, and List of References. Cover letter should be addressed to: Keri L. Grabiec, Esq.; City of Parma Law Department; 6611 Ridge Road; Parma, OH 44129.

Career Planning Workshops & Events – Week of February 15

 Wednesday, February 17 at 12:15 and 5:15 – Room W-206: Presentation on the College Cost Reduction and Access Act (CCRAA). The Career Planning Office is pleased to welcome Anneliese Gryta, Akron Law alum, Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps Legal Fellow, attorney with Legal Aid of Western Ohio and expert on the CCRAA. Ms. Gryta will be at the Law School to discuss the benefits of CCRAA. Come hear her talk and learn about Income Based Repayment (allows students to link federal student loan payments to their income level) and Public Service Loan Forgiveness (complete loan forgiveness of federal student loans after 10 years of full time employment in a public service job). Lunch served for those who attend.

 

 

  

 

Thursday, February 18 from 10:30 a.m. until 3 p.m in the Student Union Ballrooms: All Akron Law students are invited to attend the University of Akron Center for Career Management (CCM)/UA Career Fair. During these tough economic times, students do not want to miss out on this fantastic opportunity to network and meet employers within the fields of science, technology, business, government and non-profit. Students should dress professionally and bring several resumes with them to distribute to employers. A list of registered employers can be found on the CCM website – www.uakron.edu/ccm.  

 

Friday, February 19 at 12:15 in Room 152: Lary Zucker, Akron Law Class of 1972 and partner at Marshall, Dennehey, Warner, Coleman & Goggin’s Cherry Hill, NJ office will speak about his very successful career in sports/entertainment and amusement law. He will also speak about business development and what it takes t be successful at developing clients and become an expert in a particular area of law. Mr. Zucker is a Chair of MDWC&G’s Amusement Sports and Entertainment Litigation Practice Group which defends theme parks, water parks, roller skating rinks, golf courses, ski areas, bowling centers, minor league baseball stadiums, concert venues, sports stadiums, and arenas. Lunch will be served to those who attend.

 

 

 

Career Planning Announces Dining Etiquette Workshop

Thursday, February 4, 2010 from 12 noon – 1:30 p.m. — Dining Etiquette Luncheon: The Career Planning Office invites and encourages all law students to attend the following “Etiquette” Luncheon on Thursday, February 4 at the University of Akron’s Martin Center located at 105 Fir Hill. Please read the following description and follow the instructions to register. You must put down a $25 deposit when you make your reservation, but that will be refunded when you attend. SO, this event is free for all law students.

 Do you think you have what it takes to make a good first impression on a prospective employer?  In today’s economy you want to make sure you have the tools to stay ahead of the competition.  Learn and polish your etiquette and professional skills at the Center for Career Management’s “Wine, Dine, and How to Act Fine” Etiquette Lunch.

 This “crash course” highlights the basic elements of a full-course meal. Dining tips will be facilitated by a consultant specializing in etiquette and interviewing, as you enjoy a lunch of soup, salad, your choice of entrée, and dessert. Reservations for this event must be made by 4:59 p.m., Monday, February 1st, through the Center for Career Management, Simmons Hall 301 (330-972-7747).  Seating is limited so sign up early.
