Directs and executes marketing operations pertaining to company programs and procedures. Relieves management of non-routine and routine marketing, finance, and administrative duties. Exercises independent judgment in resolving issues or concerns related to company projects, programs, policies, and procedures.

Essential Functions: 20% Researches, collects, and interprets data for the purpose of providing information to management, developing programs, making recommendations, and preparing materials. Evaluates programs, provides input in the decision-making process, and administers new programs.

20% Works with management to develop a marketing strategy, collect and interpret metrics and customer feedback. Works closely with UA and community groups to develop and monitor value propositions based on market feedback to build brand awareness, promote events, and maximize the potential of programs and startups. 30% Organizes meetings, coordinates special events and composes correspondence. Updates and manages computer databases and file systems. Utilizes software packages and computer applications to create spreadsheets and documents for the completion of projects. 15% Monitors budgets, researches products, vendors, and prices to properly appropriate funds for the purchase of materials, equipment, and supplies. 15% Coordinates public relations activities for the purpose of responding to inquiries and complaints, furnishing information to the public, and providing explanations. Acts as a liaison between the company and the community to build brand awareness and recognition.

Education: Requires an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline, and coursework leading to completing a graduate degree.  Law or Business is preferred.

Experience: Interest in technology commercialization, entrepreneurship, venture capital, and/or economic development. Strong leadership, interpersonal, problem solving, critical thinking, and research skills are required. Requires experience in office procedures. Ability to coordinate programs, work in a fast-paced environment, and utilize new technology as required. Advanced computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet, and database software packages are required.

Leadership: Self-starter with abilities to think at a high level to answer inquiries in a way that advances the company’s image and brand.

Physical Requirements: The job is physically comfortable; the individual is normally seated and has discretion about walking, standing, etc. May occasionally lift objects up to 50 pounds.

Hours: Expected to work 15-20 hours per week.

Salary: $12.50 per hour.

The Alaska District is a full-service district that maintains a wide spectrum of programs including military construction, civil works construction, and environmental cleanup and regulation. The Alaska District Office of Counsel is a busy office with five attorneys and three paralegals. The law intern selected for this position will primarily assist our attorneys in a diverse array of practice areas such as litigation and government contracts, real estate, fiscal law, employment law, and environmental law and regulations.

Duties: Will be scheduled to work a minimum of twelve 40-hour weeks between May and August 2019 with the exact start and end dates to be negotiated. Will serve as GS-S9, Step 1, Student Trainee (Legal), with a salary of approximately $4,400 per month.

Eligibility: Each year, Taft awards up to 6 fellowships to highly motivated, first-year law students who are members of historically underrepresented ethnic and/or racial minority groups.

Locations: Fellows receive paid summer associate positions in one of the firm’s six offices (Chicago, IL; Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus and Dayton, OH; Indianapolis, IN) following the completion of their first year of law school. Salaries for the 10-week summer program are as follows:

Salary: Chicago $30,700; Cincinnati  $23,000; Cleveland $24,000; Columbus $23,000; Dayton $23,000;  and Indianapolis $23,000

Assuming satisfactory performance during the 1L summer fellowship, fellows have the option to return as second-year summer associates.

Duties: Those awarded fellowships will participate in our 10-week summer program between their first and second years of law school. It is our goal to provide every summer associate with a realistic experience of what it is like to practice law at Taft. Summer associates work on a variety of actual client matters and attend depositions, hearings, closings, conferences, and trials as well as perform the careful research expected of all our lawyers. Summer associates are evaluated throughout the summer on an informal basis, and will also have formal mid-summer and end-of-summer reviews.

Students selected for the fellowship, and who accept an offer to return to Taft as a second-year summer associate, will be awarded a one-time $5,000 signing bonus, paid to the student, upon acceptance of the offer.

Selection Process: Recipients of the Summer Program fellowship will be selected based on careful review of application materials provided. All fellowship applicants will be notified of the firm’s decision by March 15.
