Save the Date to Complete your Substance Abuse Lecture Required by the Ohio Bar

Tuesday, January 20, 2015, 5:30 – 6:30 pm

All students are REQUIRED to take a one-hour substance abuse lecture before they are permitted to take the Bar Exam in the State of Ohio.  We offer FREE substance abuse lectures to the entire law student body.  You do not need to be a graduating student to attend;  you just need to attend a one-hour lecture while you are in law school.

Please plan to attend the Substance Abuse Lecture on Tuesday, January 20, 2015, 5:30 – 6:30 pm, Room TBA

No R.S.V.P. Necessary

Each Session Begins and Ends Promptly

Substance Abuse Lectures are offered once during the fall semester, and once in the spring semester.   The next lecture after January 20 will not be offered until fall 2015.

Graduating in December or May? Sign Up for a FREE Photo Sitting!

Photo sessions of graduating candidate students for the 2015 Class Composite will be taken in room 166 of the Law School on:

Tuesday, November 11
Wednesday, November 12 and
Thursday, November 13  

Sign up for a time slot of your choice no later than Monday, November 10th. Please stop by the Dean’s Office front desk to sign up. Photo sessions are scheduled in 5-minute intervals. We hope every member of the class will be pictured in the composite!

There is no cost for participating in this class composite and I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity. You will be required to choose one proof for the Class Composite. I will provide you with a digital copy of all the proofs and instructions will be given to notify me of your chosen proof number for the composite photo. A full-size digital file of the proof you choose will be yours to keep. If you wish to order a copy of the Class Composite, you may bring a check made payable to The University of Akron in the amount of $30 at the time of your sitting, or you may order a copy of the Class Composite at a later date through my office.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Sign up by November 10th. Please be prompt for your photo session, scheduled in 5-minute intervals.
  • It is required that you wear a dark (Navy, Black, Dark Grey, Dark Brown) suit for a professional appearance and a coordinated look for your Class Composite Photo. 

Please sign up as soon as possible – NO LATER THAN November 10th.

Attention December 2014 JD Degree Candidates

ATTENTION December 2014 JD Degree Candidates:

VERY IMPORTANT:  Any changes to your Character and Fitness from your original law school application must be reported to our office by Wednesday, October 15.  Your Character and Fitness MUST BE updated and accurate for us to complete your Character Certificate that is due with your application to the Supreme Court of Ohio NO LATER THAN Monday, November 3 if you plan to take the Ohio February Bar Exam. Character Certificates will be ready for pick up at the receptionist desk in the Law Dean’s Office on Monday, October 20.  This will include any updates to Character and Fitness you have submitted to us by October 15.

The Bar Review Course Fellowship amount has changed to 100% of your out of pocket expenses up to a maximum of $2,250 (the reimbursement does not include reimbursable deposits).  We will begin processing reimbursements weekly after your exit interview with Career Planning and Placement Director, Alisa Benedict-O’Brien.

Candidates who successfully complete their degree requirements in time to graduate will have a degree conferral date of January 10, 2015.  Diplomas will be available for pick up beginning January 12, 2015, and they will be mailed on January 19 if they have not been picked up.  Please remember that a photo ID is required for pick up. Also, please update your address in ‘My Akron’ or submit your address to me to assure we mail your degree to the appropriate location.
