Pro Bono Opportunity – apply ASAP – great legal experience!

The city of Wooster has filed a lawsuit against a local industrial concern, Enviro-Tank Clean Services.  The industry treats oily industrial waste that is too heavy to be placed into the municipal waste stream.  The lawsuit is based upon the allegation that the industry, as a by-product of its waste treatment, generates foul or noxious (but NOT toxic) odors that persistently blanket the surrounding area, much of which consists of older residential housing.  Once the noxious odors migrate off the industry’s property they violate both a city ordinance and a state EPA reg that prohibits the maintenance of noxious odors or fumes beyond the boundaries of the property from which they are generated.  The lawsuit seeks to enjoin the industry from violating the city ordinance/state reg.

The city seeks a 2nd or 3rd year student with some familiarity with discovery practice who can assist in both the preparation of the city’s discovery responses and the analysis of the defendant’s responses, as well as legal research and pleadings.  The case is set for trial in Wooster in early April, and a law student is needed for 5-10 hours per week of work until trial. Interested students may contact the city of Wooster law director, Richard Benson, at 330-263-5248, or via email at dbenson@woosteroh.com.

Pro Bono Limited Means Opportunity!

The Summit County Juvenile court seeks law students who can volunteer at the Attorney Help Desk every Wednesday from 1-4:30. It is not necessary that you volunteer every Wednesday. The law student would assist clients with completing pro se forms in custody or delinquency issues. The court will provide training. The court would prefer a second or third year student who has taken juvenile and/or family law, but will consider all interested volunteers. If you would like to volunteer, please contact David Horner 330-643-2562.
