Student Volunteer Opportunity

Project Learn of Summit County will be hosting their annual fundraiser on Saturday March 10, 2018 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. entitled Night of Illumination here at the School of Law.   The keynote speaker for the evening is President Matthew J. Wilson along with Honorary Chair Dr. Jarrod Tudor, Dean of Wayne College.   The evening will feature hors d’oeuvres, drinks, dessert, a silent auction, interactive games and more.    The program coordinator, Roberta Kleinman is in need of volunteers to assist with the silent auction, coat check and selling tickets for games.   Your help will be needed from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Please email Roberta Kleinman to volunteer by Friday, March 2 if you are able to help out.    Community Service of Limited Means hours are available for your participation.

The Volunteer Legal Services Program (VLSP) at Community Legal Aid is seeking a law student who is interested in volunteering with our Pro Se Family law program as well as our Hot-Docs project in Spring 2018. Our office is closed for the Holiday break from December 22^nd until January 1^st so we would anticipate a commencement date of sometime in middle to late January.  The law student will be focused on strengthening and expanding our Pro Se Family law program by reviewing and updating client packets, updating information concerning court contacts, procedures and resources and incorporating the use of Hot Docs to streamline the clinic process.  We are asking for a commitment of 3-6 hours a week.  Our offices are open Monday through Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm. Unfortunately we cannot accommodate evening or weekend volunteering.

The Reentry Clinic seeks volunteers for data collection on clients assisted by the CQE and Expungement Clinics. The project will involve contacting the clients and administering a survey. The results will be documented in an Excel spreadsheet. The project will occur in December after the conclusion of final exams. The project will count for pro bono of limited means hours. If you are interested in the project, please e-mail Professor Joann Sahl, jsahl1@uakron.edu. Your e-mail must contain the date you can start the project and how many hours you will be available in December to complete the project.

The Copley High School Speech and Debate team is looking for individuals that are willing to judge at tournaments on Saturday’s.  Copley is about a 15 minute drive from campus.  This is a great way to see future lawyers in action.  If interested, please email head coach, Shannon Rote at Shannon.Rote@Copley-Fairlawn.org  The schedule for the season is below.  You can volunteer for any or all of the sessions.  You can receive general community service hours towards your pro bono hours.
