Free filing assistance for Federal and State Income Tax returns is available through The Ohio Benefit Bank (OBB), a free online service that connects low- and moderate-income Ohioans to work support programs. Please, consider volunteering for the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank to help provide this valuable service to our community this tax season. Volunteer training for the 2012 tax season will take place in the month of December 2011 and January 2012. Training dates are limited, so do not miss your chance to give back! We are looking for adults (18 and over) that are computer literate. For more information on volunteer opportunities, requirements, and training dates contact Aaron Bartlett, Community Organizer at 330-777-2303 or abartlett@acrfb.org.

Pro Bono Limited Means Opportunity – Jerome L. Holub Pro Bono Bankruptcy Project
Bankruptcy Project: The Jerome L. Holub Pro Bono Bankruptcy Project is a collaborative project between the Akron Bar Association, Community Legal Aid, and the law school. Students will receive substantive training on bankruptcy law. With attorney supervision, students get hands-on experience preparing case files for simple no-asset Chapter 7 Bankruptcy petitions. Students may also have an opportunity to prepare bankruptcy petitions, attend bankruptcy hearings, and assist volunteer attorneys who accept a pro bono bankruptcy case. An interest in practicing bankruptcy law is not necessary; the skills learned are transferrable to many areas of law.
The Volunteer Legal Services Program (VLSP) at Community Legal Aid is seeking volunteer law students who are interested in developing skills in the following areas: client interviewing, client meetings, legal research, case management, drafting advice letters, and preparing Chapter 7 bankruptcy petitions. Students are asked to commit 8-10 hours a week to the project, preferably in one full or two half days per week. Students who volunteer will receive Pro Bono/Limited Means hours that count toward the graduation requirement.
For additional information, or to volunteer, contact Ms. Cindy Adair of Community Legal Aid Services at cadair@communitylegalaid.org or at 330-983-2695 EXT 2534.
Wills for Heroes – Saturday, January 21, 2012
To all students and faculty:
Please consider helping with the Wills for Heroes program as outlined in the materials located here. The law school has been involved in this ever since its inception. Through this program we provide vital information to first responders; police, firefighters and EMS personnel. This program was created following the recognition that so many of those who responded to the 9/11 attacks did not have wills or other life choice documents. As a student you will interview prospective clients, gather information to be shared with the attorneys and will input data into a specially designed computer program to yield a variety of documents. These will include living wills, wills, and powers of attorney.
If you are a faculty member and are licensed in Ohio you can give legal advice to these clients. If you are not licensed in Ohio you can still help.
Please contact Professor Carro at carro1@uakron.edu by December 23, 2011 if you would like to help. Thank you.
