Lake County Bar Association Scholarship

The Lake County Bar Foundation of the Lake County Bar Association is pleased to announce it will be awarding up to three (3) One Thousand Dollar ($1,000.00) Scholarships on Law Day, May 1, 2012. Law students who arc legal residents of Lake County, Ohio are eligible and are invited to apply.

Federal Student Aid Changes for 2012

The Budget Control Act (BCA) OF 2011 was signed into law on August 2, 2011. The Act made important changes to the Federal Direct Stafford Loan Program.

– Effective for loans made for periods of enrollment (loan periods) beginning on or after July 1, 2012, graduate and professional students are no longer eligible to receive Federal Direct Subsidized Loans.

DRI 2012 Law Student Diversity Scholarship

DRI announces its annual Law Student Diversity Scholarship program* open to incoming second and third-year African American, Hispanic, Asian and Native American students.

The goal of these scholarships is to provide financial assistance to two worthy law students from ABA accredited law schools in order to promote, in a tangible way, the DRI Diversity Statement of Principle.

Incoming second-and third-year female law students are also eligible, regardless of race or ethnicity. Incoming second-and third-year law students who also come from backgrounds that would add to the cause of diversity, regardless of race or gender are eligible to apply.

To qualify for this scholarship, candidates must be full-time students. Evening students also qualify for consideration if they have completed one-third or more of the total credit hours required for a degree by the applicant’s law school.

Two scholarships in the amount of $10,000 each will be awarded to applicants who best meet the following criteria:
Demonstrated academic excellence
Service to the profession
Service to the community
Service to the cause of diversity

*Students who are members of the American Association for Justice (AAJ), Law School or Law Student members of AAJ or students otherwise affiliated with or employed by AAJ are not eligible for DRI Law Student Diversity Scholarships.

Akron Bar Foundation Scholarship Applications Now Being Accepted

The Akron Bar Foundation is pleased to announce that it is now accepting applications for scholarships for the 2012-2013 academic year. The Akron Bar Foundation provides scholarships to law students based on grade point average, affiliation with Summit County, history of community involvement, and financial need. Applications must be postmarked no later than Thursday, April 5, 2012. Late and/or incomplete applications will not be considered for an award. Qualified applicants will be contacted to arrange for an interview, which will take place at the end of April.

Scholarship Opportunities – Critchfield Law Resident and Diversity Scholarships

The law firm or Critchfield, Critchfield & Johnston, Ltd., located in Wooster, Millersburg, Mount Vernon and Medina, has announced it is sponsoring two law scholarships for the 2012-2013 school year. The Critchfield Law Resident Scholarship is offered for current or former residents or Ashland, Holmes, Knox, Medina or Wayne County who has completed at least one semester of law school. The Critchfield Law Diversity Scholarship is offered to a minority student who has completed at least one semester or law school.

“We are looking forward to rewarding these students for their contributions to their community, as well as academic achievements,” said Daniel H. Plumly, managing partner of Critchfield, Critchfield & Johnston, Ltd.

At least one award in the amount of $1,000 will be provided for each scholarship for the 2012-2013 academic year. The deadline lor applying for the 2012-2013 scholarships is Friday, March 30,2012.
