Scholarship Opportunity – Serbian Bar Association

 2012 SCHOLARSHIPS

The SBAA is hosting a scholarship gala on Saturday, November 17, 2012, at the Park Ridge Country Club in Park Ridge, Illinois. Five scholarships will be awarded; one in the amount of $2,500, two in the amount of $2,000, one in the amount of $1,000 and one in the amount of $500. 

ELIGIBILITY

All persons of Serbian birth, ancestry, or connubial relationship who are enrolled in an accredited law school in any state of the United States of America are eligible to apply for the scholarships.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE

The deadline for receipt of applications is October 15, 2012.

Scholarship recipients will be notified in advance, and the scholarships will be awarded at the scholarship gala on November 17, 2012.

SBAA MISSION AND PURPOSE

The SBAA is an organization of Serbian American attorneys, judges, paralegals and law students that has been in existence for nearly twenty years. The purposes and the mission of the SBAA are as follows:

·       To use the knowledge, experience and skills of our profession to provide resource assistance to, and promote the best interests of, the Serbian American community, including the Serbian Orthodox Church, our national organizations and our humanitarian organizations;

·       To be a vehicle for making unified public pronouncements to represent and advocate the vital interests of the Serbian American community as a whole with respect to current social, political, economic, legal and other matters of vital concern;

·       To serve as a national network of communication among members of the Serbian American legal community for purposes of networking, exchange of ideas, client referrals and career placement opportunities;

·       To provide scholarship assistance to law students of Serbian descent;

·       To maintain the honor and dignity of the legal profession and a high standard of ethical conduct.

In addition, the SBAA represents a valuable asset to Serbian American law students by offering them the opportunity to network with the greater Serbian American legal community and affording them career placement opportunities.

Successful applicants must attend an accredited law school and have lived in Sandusky County Ohio or attended High School in Sandusky County, Ohio.

Robert E. Donovan Memorial Scholarship Applications Now Being Accepted

Applications are now being accepted for the 2012-2013 Robert E. Donovan Memorial Scholarship.  (APPLICATION AVAILABLE HERE)

Robert Donovan died in a plane crash over Bosnia on April 3, 1996.  The plane crash killed the U.S. commerce secretary and 33 other leaders who were on a trade mission to help rebuild the war-ravaged country once called Yugoslavia.  Robert’s daughter, Kara Donovan, was in her final semester at The University of Akron School of Law at the time of her father’s death.

Academic merit and financial need will be considered by the Donovan Scholarship Committee.

Samuel Krugliak Legal Scholarship

Krugliak, Wilkins, Griffiths & Dougherty Co., LPA, is accepting applications now through June 8, 2012, for its “Samuel Krugliak Legal Scholarship” which will award up to $1000 to one or more students currently enrolled and attending law school, accredited by the American Bar Association. The purpose of the Samuel Krugliak scholarship is to assist law students who exemplify the Firm’s ethic and who intend to practice law in the communities served by Krugliak, Wilkins, Griffiths & Dougherty Co., LPA.

Students may apply for the 2012-2013 academic year scholarship provided they have resided in one of the following counties during their lifetime: Stark, Wayne, Tuscarawas, Carroll, Summit, Holmes, Mahoning or Columbiana. Candidates must also possess strong academic credentials, participate in extracurricular activities, and have adesire to return to the region to practice law.

AKRON BAR ASSOCIATION FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE IS THURSDAY, APRIL 5

ONLY 7 APPLICATIONS HAVE BEEN SUBMITTED THUS FAR.

The Akron Bar Foundation will accept applications through deadline of April 5, 2012 for scholarships for the 2012-2013 academic year. The Akron Bar Foundation provides scholarships to law students based on grade point average, affiliation with Summit County, history of community involvement, and financial need. Applications must be postmarked no later than Thursday, April 5, 2012. Late and/or incomplete applications will not be considered for an award. Qualified applicants will be contacted to arrange for an interview, which will take place at the end of April.
