Scholarship Opportunity – Mark T. Banner Scholarship for Law Students

The Richard Linn American Inn of Court is proud to offer the Mark T. Banner Scholarship for law students. This scholarship is part of The Richard Linn American Inn of Court’s commitment to fostering the development of intellectual property lawyers of high ethics, civility and professionalism, and especially those from diverse backgrounds.

Eligibility

Law students who have entered into a JD program at an ABA-accredited law school in the United States and who will continue in that program through the fall semester 2012 are eligible to apply for the Mark T. Banner Scholarship.

Selection Criteria

Scholarship recipients will be selected by the Mark T. Banner Scholarship review board based on the following criteria:

  • Commitment to the pursuit of a career in IP law
  • Commitment, qualities and actions toward ethics, civility and professionalism
  • Academic merit (undergraduate, graduate and law school)
  • Written and oral communication skills determined in part through a telephone interview
  • Leadership qualities and community involvement
  • Member of a historically under represented group in IP law (including race, sex, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and disability)
  • An ability to demonstrate commitment to the pursuit of a career in intellectual property law is an essential requirement
  • Diversity is considered, but is also one element among several in the award decision

Financial Award

Recipients of the Mark T. Banner Diversity Scholarship will receive $5,000 payable for the Fall semester of their second or third year of law school.

Application Process

Applications will be accepted from now through November 15, 2011. Awards will be announced in March 2012. Applicants will submit the following documents for consideration:

  • Completed Mark T. Banner Scholarship Application Form
  • Resume
  • Academic transcripts (law school, undergraduate/graduate school)
  • Writing sample (5-10 pages) (a legal writing sample is requested, if available)
  • Contact information for three references
  • One page statement describing how (a) ethics, civility and professionalism have been a focus of the candidate, and (b) how diversity has impacted the candidate

 

Bar Exam Review Course Fellowship

Bar Exam Review Course Fellowship 

If you will be graduating in January and taking the February 2012 bar exam or graduating in May and taking the July 2012 bar exam in any state and have or plan to register for a commercial bar review course, please complete and submit the Bar Exam Review Course Fellowship form found at http://www.uakron.edu/dotAsset/2202517.pdf .     Then, you will need to submit this form at your exit interview with the Career Planning Office.

The bar review fee of $25 per 9200:600 level series law school credit was only charged during the fall 2010 and spring 2011 semesters.    Students who meet the criteria specified on the Bar Exam Review Course Fellowship form found at http://www.uakron.edu/dotAsset/2202517.pdf will receive exactly what they paid into the bar fee program.

Fellowship payments will be processed as early as November 1 for February bar takers and by April 1 for July bar takers.

Donald W. Banner Diversity Scholarship for Law Students

Banner & Witcoff is proud to offer the Donald W. Banner Diversity Scholarship for law students. This scholarship is part of Banner & Witcoff’s commitment to fostering the development of intellectual property lawyers from diverse backgrounds.

Eligibility

Law students who meet the selection criteria and have entered into a JD program at an ABA-accredited law school in the United States are eligible to apply for the Donald W. Banner Diversity Scholarship. Applicants may not be a current or past employee of Banner & Witcoff, or directly related to a current employee of Banner & Witcoff.

Serbian Bar Association of America Scholarship

SCHOLARSHIPS: The Serbian Bar Association of America is hosting a scholarship gala on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at the Park Ridge Country Club in Park Ridge, Illinois. Four scholarships will be awarded; two in the amount of $2,000, one in the amount of $1,000 and one in the amount of $500.

 

ELIGIBILITY: All persons of Serbian birth, ancestry or connubial relationship who are enrolled in an accredited law school in any state of the United States of America are eligible to apply for the scholarships.

 

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: The deadline for receipt of applications has been extended to September 15, 2011. Scholarship recipients will be notified in advance of October 8, 2011 and the scholarships will be awarded at the scholarship gala.

Scholarship awards will be distributed in February 2012 for fall 2011 and spring 2012.

These are UPPER DIVISION law student scholarships. Therefore, first-year law students are not eligible to apply.
