BLSA – Moot Court Results

This past weekend, eighteen teams participated in the Fredrick Douglas Moot Court National Competition, including Akron’s team of Terence Baptiste and Eric Foster, coached by professors Elizabeth Shaver and Rick Strong. Eric and Terence argued three times on Thursday, and the top 8 teams advanced to the semi-finals on Friday. Unfortunately, Eric and Terence did not advance to the semi-final, but the team they beat in the first round placed second overall. According to Terence, “It seems like we barely missed the semi-final based on the teams we beat [in the] first round.”

Eric and Terence did not come home empty handed, however. The National Black Law Students Association presented Akron Law’s BLSA chapter with the Small Chapter of the Year Award. The trophy will be on display in the case near the elevator shortly.

BLSA would like to thank the following student organizations for sharing their EAF money to help with expenses related to the Frederick Douglass National Moot Court Competition:

  • Akron Public Interest Law Society
  • International Law Society
  • Law School Democrats
  • Akron Criminal Justice Society
  • American Civil Liberties Union
  • Sports and Entertainment Law Society
  • Phi Delta Phi
  • Phi Alpha Delta

Please congratulate Eric and Terence on their performance when you see them around the law school this week.
