CHIEF JUSTICE AND JUSTICES
The majority of the extern’s time will be spent researching, writing, and analyzing legal issues. This may involve the preparation of draft opinions, bench memos and memos discussing discretionary appeals and complaints for writs, speeches, or individualized research projects. The extern will be assigned to a judicial attorney and will have his/her work reviewed by that attorney. Externs will also be able to observe oral arguments on the merits of cases when the Court is in session.

Prof. Katie Eyer, Rutgers Law School

Katie Eyer is an anti-discrimination law scholar, teacher and litigator. She is a leading expert on LGBTQ employment rights and on social movements and constitutional change. Her article Statutory Originalism and LGBT Rights has been credited with originating the textualist argument that the Supreme Court adopted in the landmark case of Bostock v. Clayton County (2020) holding that anti-LGBT discrimination is discrimination “because of sex” under Title VII.

Professor Eyer is a member of the American Law Institute and has been recognized at the national, university and local level for her scholarship, teaching, service, and work as a litigator. Her work has been published in numerous top law journals, including the Yale Law Journal and the Harvard Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review.

Prior to teaching, Professor Eyer was a lawyer doing cutting-edge work in the area of LGBTQ employment rights at the Employment Rights Project at Equality Advocates Pennsylvania, one of the first projects in the country to focus on the employment rights of LGBTQ workers, and then at the private firm Salmanson Goldshaw. Professor Eyer’s work resulted in several precedent-setting decisions expanding the rights of LGBTQ and disabled employees, including one of the first appellate decisions in the country allowing a gay plaintiff’s Title VII claims to go to trial. She clerked for Judge Guido Calabresi and was a Research Scholar and Lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania.

The American Society for Pharmacy Law (“ASPL”) is seeking applicants for the Ken Baker Memorial Student Scholarship.  The purpose of this scholarship is to support students in pharmacy and pharmacy law to attend the annual ASPL Developments in Pharmacy Law Seminar where they will: 1) attend up to 15 hours of continuing education sessions; and 2) network with industry professionals from across the country.  Funding for this scholarship is subject to vary year to year based upon the operational funds available to ASPL.

The recipient will receive a complimentary registration to the annual Developments in Pharmacy Law Seminar in the current year to earn up to 15 hours of continuing education and participate in a variety of networking opportunities.  A complimentary hotel-stay up to 3 nights at the conference hotel (room & tax only) and reimbursement of up to $750 travel to attend the conference.  Recipients will also receive a complimentary 1 year ASPL Student Membership giving access to monthly member newsletters, reduced registration fees for live and on-demand webinars and potential participation in various ASPL committees and work groups.

Eligibility Applicant must be a full-time student of an ACPE accredited entry-level pharmacy degree program in the U.S. 
OR A full-time student enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school to pursue the JD degree. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S. Applicant must be actively enrolled in school November 4-7, 2021 of the Developments in Pharmacy Law Seminar. 

Selection Criteria
The selection process includes review of: Academic transcripts from law school or college of pharmacy Letter of reference from law school or pharmacy professor A brief essay (500 words or less) of the applicant’s interest in pharmacy law and how attendance at the conference will help in their career pursuits ASPL may require additional information as part of the application process as it deems necessary to select a recipient who best meets the purposes of the scholarship.  Financial need is not a criterion 
Deadline for submission of an application is September 15, 2021.  The recipient of the Scholarship will be notified no later than October 1, 2021.
