Constitutional Law Center Fellowships

The Center for Constitutional Law at Akron Law is seeking applications from students interested in serving as Constitutional Law Center Fellows for the 2021-22 academic year.  The four Con Law Fellows work to support the research and programming of the Center.

The Center for Constitutional Law is one of only four national resource centers established by Congress in 1986 on the bicentennial of the Constitution to support research on constitutional law.  Fellows are supervised by the director of the Center for Con Law, Professor Tracy Thomas.  Con Law Fellows conduct legal and archival research for scholarly papers, write and edit articles for the online journal ConLawNOW, manage the Center’s social media outreach, lead discussion forums, and assist with events sponsored by the Center.  The Con Law Fellowship is unpaid, but offers opportunities for resume distinction, mentorship, advanced research skills, and networking—all advantages in building professional opportunities.  Fellows are expected to commit five hours per week to the fellowship throughout the course of the appointment from June 1, 2021 to April 30, 2022.

Interested students should submit a resume and statement of interest to Professor Tracy Thomas at thomast@uakron.edu by April 30, 2021.   More about the Con Law Center generally is available here: https://www.uakron.edu/law/ccl/.

National LGBTQ+ Bar Association Scholarships

The National LGBTQ+ Bar has recently launched a scholarship program for LGBTQ+ and ally law students. Three scholarships of $2,500 will be awarded annually; all current and incoming students with a commitment to LGBTQ+ equality are encouraged to apply. Applications are now open for the 2021-2022 school year, and will close on April 1, 2021. In addition, the National LGBTQ+ Bar has added a new resource page to its website listing LGBTQ+ diversity scholarships: https://lgbtbar.org/programs/law-students/scholarship-list/

Public Interest Fun-Raiser!

SAVE THE DATE: The Student Bar Association is hosting its annual Public Interest Law Fellowship Fundraiser, which is aimed at raising funds to provide stipends for law students who work in non-profit or public interest settings during the summer.

The Public Interest Fellowship Program supports and encourages students looking to gain legal experience in public interest law. Students who have secured a placement with a public interest organization, such as a court, a state or federal agency, or a qualifying non-profit entity, are eligible to apply for a fellowship to support their legal work. Students who apply for a fellowship must attend the event.

This year we are hosting a virtual trivia night and winners will earn bragging rights and a trophy. There will be other awesome prizes given throughout the night. We hope to see you there!
