The Akron Bar Foundation Scholarship Application for law school students is now open. I have attached the link to our website below, which has the requirements and the downloadable pdf fillable application. Please, post and share with your law school students. The Akron Bar Foundation, the charitable arm of the Akron Bar Association, works to improve the quality of justice and the image of lawyers through the support of law-related and public service programs primarily directed to the Akron metropolitan area. The best way to talk about the success of the Akron Bar Foundation is to look at the numbers. In 2018, the Akron Bar Foundation provided the following:

• $34,575 granted to 11 community organizations
• $40,000 awarded in scholarships to deserving law students selected for their academic achievement, service to the community, financial need and with a connection to Summit County (live/lived in or parents/grandparents are from Summit County, etc.)
• $2,500 granted two fellowships to law students working in an unpaid intern position for a non-profit or government entity
• $15,000 approved in grant monies to the Akron Municipal Court for Wi-Fi and electronic device charging stations
• $29,000 approved in grant monies to provide local attorneys with patron access to the law library at the UA School of Law

Cleveland, Ohio — Summer 2019 Externship – Ohio Attorney General

AkronLawJobs No. 10047 Overview:In the Cleveland Regional Office, we represent 17 sections of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office; have 45 attorneys and an office total of approximately 80-85 persons. 

We operate our Regional Intern/Extern Program by a representative committee and give the students a comprehensive experience.  We have two mentors (male and female), a writing coach, external events coordinators and generational diversity.  Students may have the opportunity to work with different attorneys in various sections. 

Duties:  We are litigation-intensive and the students will write motions, memos and briefs, attend depositions and court hearings and learn to network and enhance their collegial and professional skills in an open, gracious and warm environment in Cleveland.  We also partner with county and federal court systems for “Court Week” where our interns shadow judges and learn the reasoning and rationale behind court decisions.  These are just a few of the planned activities for our Externs. The work and skills, professionalism and progress of our Law Clerks are monitored closely by our committee.  We are firm when we have to be—our mentors correct when needed.  Overall, we have a helpful office to those learning the ropes—many attorneys don’t hesitate to reach out, cultivate, support and teach—and we take our roles seriously.

TRIAL TEAM TRYOUTS: Information Session March 15 at 3:00

There will be an information session about the Akron Trial Team this Friday March 15, 2019 at 3:00 PM in room 280. Head coach Kevin Kita will be present to explain the successes and involvement of Akron Trial Team, in addition to answering any and all questions you may have. 

If you are thinking about tryout out for the Akron Trial Team this is a great time to get involved, meet coaches, and learn what is expected of you on the team. 

March 15 at 3:00 in Room 280. 

Become a part of the Nationally ranked Akron Trial Team! The Akron Trial Team proudly has four straight AAJ Regional Titles and two straight National Final Appearances, in addition to two upcoming National appearances at AAJ and BLSA this Spring!

This past season, at six out of seven National Tournaments, our team finished in the semi-finals or finals. Topping off the season with an AAJ Regional Akron v. Akron final! At the end of this semester we will be competing for a National Championship at AAJ Nationals in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and BLSA Nationals in Little Rock, Arkansas.
