Volunteers Needed for Orientation

What makes Akron Law a great place?  The students, faculty and staff that’s what!  Help us to welcome our newest members of the Akron Law family by volunteering to make their first experience special!  We are looking for volunteers to help us with the following Orientation activities:

  • Help with putting together the materials and details for Orientation (anytime during the day beginning Wednesday, August 16 – Wednesday, August 23).
  • Summer Trial Academy Shepherds, needed 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 25, 2017.
  • Student mentors for our Fall 2017 Entering Class.  As you may recall, this is a tremendous resource for our IL students.

If you are interested please contact Assistant Director Misty Franklin at misty@uakron.edu to sign up for one or more of these activities (and gain General Community Service Pro Bono hours).

CQE Clinic Volunteer Training – Friday, July 14 4:30pm – 6pm

Our next free Certificate of Qualification for Employment (CQE) clinic is Saturday, July 15, 2017!  We’re very excited to be providing opportunities for ex-offenders in Summit County to take a step toward gaining employment and independence!

We are looking for students to volunteer from 8:15am-12:45pm on Saturday, July 15, 2017.  The clinic will be held at Oriana House [1040 E. Tallmadge Ave., Akron, OH 44310]. The time you volunteer can be applied toward your graduation requirement as pro bono limited means hours.

There will be a mandatory volunteer training on Friday, July 14 , 2017 from 4:30-6:00pm for first timers. Location of the training will be announced the week of the clinic. The time you are at training will count towards your pro bono limited means hours as well. For those who have completed the training once before, you are more than welcome to attend the training for a refresher. However, you may not count the training towards your pro bono limited means hours again.

If you’re interested in volunteering or have any questions, please e-mail Brittany at bfw7@zips.uakron.edu. You can also learn more about the clinic at our website: http://www.uakron.edu/law/clinical/cqe-clinic.dot.

YOU MUST RSVP IF YOU PLAN TO ATTEND THE CLINIC!!!

*Expungement Clinic Seeking Student Volunteers*

The Expungement Clinic helps low-income Summit County residents seal the record of their criminal convictions.  A sealed record enables many people better access to jobs, housing, and volunteer opportunities.  Students will learn integral skills in the legal field including record searches, reading court dockets, completing applications to file with the court, and interviewing real clients.
