The appropriate applicant will be in the top 30% of his or her class and also have experience searching criminal case court dockets. Angel Tree Event – Community Service Limited Means Hours
We are proud to announce our upcoming Angel Tree Event, where we provide gifts to children whose parents are incarcerated. It will be a Christmas party that includes lunch, crafts, movies, DJ, and stories. The event will occur on December 10, 2016 at the Ohio Means Jobs Center, 1040 E. Tallmadge Ave., Akron, OH 44203, and is from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Volunteers may work all day or in shifts. Volunteers will arrive at 8:30 a.m. or 11:00 a.m.
Volunteers are needed for the following: Food Servers, Registration Helpers, Gift Escorts, Crafts, Gift Handouts, and Photo Handler

2L or 3L Intern Student Coordinator-Summit County Legal Defender, Inc.
Summit County Legal Defender’s Office has an immediate opening for a Intern Student Coordinator as part of the Juvenile Detention Alternative Initiative Program.
This is a paid position. This position offers unique experience interviewing juvenile clients accused of criminal offenses. It is the perfect opportunity for anyone who is passionate about helping people, especially young adults. The internship allows hands on experience with clients, and the court. You will be required to interview juvenile clients and obtain information that will help prepare the supervising attorney for morning preliminary detention hearings. You will also be responsible for coordinating with student volunteers who want to help conduct the interviews for pro bono hours.

2017 ABA Client Counseling Competition: Sign Up Now!! (And Info Session 11/22)
We invite all Akron Law students to compete in the 2017 ABA Client Counseling Competition, which will be on Saturday, January 14, 2017. Teams of two conduct an initial interview with a fictional client and address the client’s legal (and non-legal) needs. The teams must, among other things, build a relationship with the client, determine the client’s goals, and consider options available to the client.
This competition is open to all Akron Law students (including 1Ls). Find a partner and sign up today!

There will also be an information session with President Wilson on Tuesday, November 22nd at 5:15 in Law 140. Trandafir International Business Writing Competition
All current law students are welcome to participate in the 2016-17 Trandafir International Business Writing Competition. Students may write papers on any topic of contemporary international business or economic concern with a legal nexus. The winner will receive a cash prize of $2,000 and publication. Submissions must be sent to law-trandafir@uiowa.edu and must be received by 5:00 p.m. (CST) on March 3, 2017.
