The PIABA Foundation is hosting a law student writing competition on September 17, 2021 5pm. The 1st place winner received $1,000 and their paper is published in the PIABA Bar Journal, the 2nd place winner will receive $750 and the 3rd place winner will receive $500. The Akron Municipal Court has a part-time court intern/ runner position vacancy with a maximum of 29 hours per. The pay is $10.25 per hour. The preferred work schedule is at least three days per week with availability between 8:30 am to 3:30 pm . The American Society for Pharmacy Law (“ASPL”) is seeking applicants for the Ken Baker Memorial Student Scholarship. The purpose of this scholarship is to support students in pharmacy and pharmacy law to attend the annual ASPL Developments in Pharmacy Law Seminar where they will: 1) attend up to 15 hours of continuing education sessions; and 2) network with industry professionals from across the country. Funding for this scholarship is subject to vary year to year based upon the operational funds available to ASPL.
The recipient will receive a complimentary registration to the annual Developments in Pharmacy Law Seminar in the current year to earn up to 15 hours of continuing education and participate in a variety of networking opportunities. A complimentary hotel-stay up to 3 nights at the conference hotel (room & tax only) and reimbursement of up to $750 travel to attend the conference. Recipients will also receive a complimentary 1 year ASPL Student Membership giving access to monthly member newsletters, reduced registration fees for live and on-demand webinars and potential participation in various ASPL committees and work groups.
Eligibility Applicant must be a full-time student of an ACPE accredited entry-level pharmacy degree program in the U.S.
OR A full-time student enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school to pursue the JD degree. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S. Applicant must be actively enrolled in school November 4-7, 2021 of the Developments in Pharmacy Law Seminar.
Selection Criteria
The selection process includes review of: Academic transcripts from law school or college of pharmacy Letter of reference from law school or pharmacy professor A brief essay (500 words or less) of the applicant’s interest in pharmacy law and how attendance at the conference will help in their career pursuits ASPL may require additional information as part of the application process as it deems necessary to select a recipient who best meets the purposes of the scholarship. Financial need is not a criterion
Deadline for submission of an application is September 15, 2021. The recipient of the Scholarship will be notified no later than October 1, 2021.

Below is important information for those who plan to take the Ohio Bar Exam:
We will hold an Ohio Bar Admissions Workshop on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. in The Brennan Courtroom (L180). Our speaker will be Tiffany Kline, Assistant Director of Bar Admissions for the Supreme Court of Ohio. Those in their second calendar year of law school, and two-year international students who are in their first year at Akron Law should plan to attend.
The Ohio Bar Admissions process involves two steps. Step one is the submission of the Application to Register as a Candidate for Admission to the Practice of Law. Step Two is the Application to take the bar exam on a particular date.
If you are in your second calendar year of law school, or are a two-year international student in your first year of law school, the deadline to submit a timely Application to Register as a Candidate for Admission to the Practice of Law (what the Bar Admissions Office commonly calls the Character and Fitness Application) is November 15, 2021. We will have your Certificate of Dean and a fingerprint card available for you to pick up in late September or early October. We will notify you when those are available to be picked up.
If you plan to take the February 2022 Bar Exam, the deadline to submit a timely application is November 1, 2021. If you plan to take the July 2022 Bar Exam, the deadline to submit a timely application is April 1, 2022. Information on the application can be found here: Application to take the Bar Exam.
For those taking the February 2022 Bar Exam, we will mail your Law School Character Certificate to the address that you have on file with the University of Akron. We expect to send those out the first week of October. We will send your Final Law School Certificate, including the Substance Abuse Certification (if we have a record showing that you’ve fulfilled that requirement), directly to the Bar Admissions Office after your degree is conferred in January 2022.
For those taking the July 2022 Bar Exam, we will provide further information as to how we will make your Law School Character Certificate available to you; however, we will send your Final Law School Certificate, including the Substance Abuse Certification (if we have a record showing that you’ve fulfilled that requirement), directly to the Bar Admissions Office after your degree is conferred in May 2022.
