Institutional Review Board is recruiting members

The University’s Institutional Review Board (IRB) seeks additional members.  The Board is seeking a graduate student or law student representative.

The University of Akron IRB for the Protection of Human Subjects is an administrative body established to protect the rights and welfare of individuals recruited for participation in research conducted under the auspices of the university or its affiliates. Its mission is to advance an organizational culture and infrastructure that supports the highest ethical standards in the review and implementation of research with human participants. The University of Akron gives the IRB ultimate authority for approval of research with human participants. Student participants would gain experience in regulatory compliance, research compliance, advocacy, and research ethics.

Cleveland, OH – Law Clerk – Cuyahoga County Public Defender

AkronLawJobs No. 12930: The law clerk will have an opportunity to work in the Felony, Municipal, Appellate or Juvenile Divisions of the Cuyahoga County Public Defender’s Office. The law clerk will observe, work with, and participate in, when possible, all stages of the trial and/or appellate process. The law clerk will assist a supervising attorney in all stages of trial preparation including client interviews, legal research, and motion writing. Students will be encouraged to practice problem solving skills within the context of various legal issues and engage in discussions and strategy planning with the attorney. Third year students with certification from the Ohio Supreme Court allowing them to appear, with certain restrictions and limitations, as counsel in juvenile, municipal, and felony cases may be allowed to represent defendants in Court where such representation is permitted.
