Ohio Bar Exam Information and Deadlines

ATTENTION:   ALL 2nd YEAR FULL-TIME & PART-TIME STUDENTS

 If you plan to take the Ohio Bar Exam and have not already done so, your Application to Register as a Candidate for Admission to the Practice of Law must be RECEIVED in the Office of Bar Admissions at the Supreme Court of Ohio by November 15.

Law school certificates (available on the application link above) must be submitted to the law school dean’s office, College Program Specialist / Law Registrar Liz Sauders for processing.

 LOCATION:                 Room 151

PURPOSE:    If you are a first or second year law student, you are considering or definitely planning to sit for the Ohio bar exam, and you have NOT yet submitted your required preliminary bar application, then you should absolutely plan to attend this FREE workshop.   This program is open to all law students.

 Topics addressed will include:

 ¨       The Ohio bar application process

¨       Character and Fitness (issues, problems, investigations)

¨       The level of scrutiny given to the bar applications

¨       Appropriate and thorough responses to the bar application questions

¨       DEADLINES!

Consider the following Preliminary Bar Application DEADLINES for The Supreme Court of Ohio

 November 15:  By all SECOND YEAR FULL- and PART-TIME students  ($75 fee)

 January 15:       DROP DEAD DEADLINE for July bar exam takers ($200 late fee)

 August 15:        DROP DEAD DEADLINE for February bar exam takers ($200 late fee)

WARNING:       Waiting until the drop-dead dates to file an application places you at risk of not getting to take the bar exam right after graduation.

Bar Exam Review Course Fellowship

Bar Exam Review Course Fellowship 

If you will be graduating in January and taking the February 2012 bar exam or graduating in May and taking the July 2012 bar exam in any state and have or plan to register for a commercial bar review course, please complete and submit the Bar Exam Review Course Fellowship form found at http://www.uakron.edu/dotAsset/2202517.pdf .     Then, you will need to submit this form at your exit interview with the Career Planning Office.

The bar review fee of $25 per 9200:600 level series law school credit was only charged during the fall 2010 and spring 2011 semesters.    Students who meet the criteria specified on the Bar Exam Review Course Fellowship form found at http://www.uakron.edu/dotAsset/2202517.pdf will receive exactly what they paid into the bar fee program.

Fellowship payments will be processed as early as November 1 for February bar takers and by April 1 for July bar takers.

Spring 2012 Graduation Application Info.

Spring 2012 graduation applications due November 1, 2011

All students planning to graduate at the end of the spring 2012 semester must complete a graduation application no later than Tuesday, November 1. Late applicants will need to obtain the dean’s permission and pay the $100 late fee.

Law students must apply for graduation through ZipLine. Step-by-step instructions are available on the Graduation Services website.

We are here for you!    Did you know that you are most welcome to consult with ANY law faculty member as your advisor?   Rather than have rigid formal assignments of one law faculty advisor, we want you to know that ALL Akron Law faculty members are available for you to contact and schedule an appointment for consultation.   

For your convenience, the law school’s faculty webpage contains all of our faculty bios to help you determine which faculty share an interest, etc.  We hope you will take opportunities to contact faculty in your areas of interest.  

 And when it comes to technical help of program requirements and mapping strategies that might be more helpful to your particular situation, please feel free to contact specific advisors as follows:
