Akron Law has purchased a table of eight for the “Hearts for Humanity” event that will be held at the Student Union on Friday, Feb. 4 (cash bar opens at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m.). This early Mardi Gras celebration also includes a DJ, oral and silent auction, “Dessert Dash” of more than 40 gourmet desserts, and other fun activities. Proceeds will help defray the costs for UA students who are traveling to the Louisiana Gulf region over spring break for relief work. Tickets to the law school table will be awarded on a first-respond basis. If you’d like to attend, please e-mail Marchelle Bobbs in the Dean’s office (bobbs@uakron.edu).

The Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE) is required for admission to the bars of all but four U.S. jurisdictions. Passing scores, which are established by each jurisdiction, currently vary between 75 and 86. Applicants are advised to contact the jurisdictions directly for the most current information regarding passing scores, rules, and policies. A regularly updated list of contact information for the jurisdictions appears on the Bar Admission Offices page.
The Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE) is a 60-question, two-hour-and-five-minute, multiple-choice examination administered three times each year. Information packets are available at the Law School Receptionist desk, or on-line at http://www.ncbex.org/multistate-tests/mpre/.
If you have questions regarding the MPRE, please call 319-341-2500. E-mail mpre.registration@act.org for registration information or mpre.score@act.org for scoring information.

Midwest Public Interest Law Career Conference – Sign up today
Midwest Public Interest Law Career Conference – All first, second and third year law students at Akron Law are invited to participate in the 22nd Annual Midwest Public Interest Law Career Conference (MPILCC) to be held on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Northwestern University School of Law in Chicago. The Career Planning Office will pay the registration fee for students to attend the conference. Students are responsible for their own travel and lodging arrangements. The Conference offers students the opportunity to:
- Interview with a variety of public interest and government employers for summer law clerk and entry-level attorney positions (employers will pre-screen resumes and select students to interview). Though most of the opportunities are unpaid or invite outside funding, there are positions that often a stipend. Since most of the employers come mainly from the Midwest, students may find positions in the communities they seek to serve.
- Meet with employers during Table Talk, a morning session where employers and students informally and share information. Employers may, distribute brochures, newsletters and other organizational literature.
- Respond to employer job postings (resume requests) for internships (volunteer or paid), fellowship, and entry-level positions. This service is available throughout the school year at the MPILCC Symplicity.com site to students registered for the MPILCC Career Conference.
Please notify the Career Planning and Placement Office no later than Thursday, December 9, 2010 if you plan to attend.
