Learn about practicing law as in-house counsel – Great Networking Opportunity for all students!

Barry Fromm, a 1980 UA Law School graduate who is the President and CEO of the Value Recovery Group (the holding company for a number of corporations) will be speaking today (Wednesday, September 29) from 5 to 6 p.m. in West Hall Room 214.  He will be speaking  about his career path, his philosophy as an entrepreneur and the proper role for attorneys acting as inside counsel.  He employs a large staff of lawyers in his businesses that are headquartered in a suburb of Columbus.  This is an opportunity to network with a potential employer and to gain an insight into what  business employers are looking for from internal lawyers.  All students are welcome to attend Professor Spring’s class for this presentation.

AABA Ohio General Body Meeting

Now that AABA Ohio is becoming more active, we would like to gather members, potential members, and anyone interested in the Asian Bar to help set a new course for the Asian American Bar Association of Ohio.  Get involved and shape the future of the AABA!

The agenda will include reports back from the various groups working on the issues that the attendees at the first General Meeting decided were important for the organization – Mentorship, Career Development, Community Service, Social Networking, Membership, and Bar Liaison/ Increasing AABA Visibility.  We will also be planning upcoming events.

University of Akron Athletics Department seeks a student assistant in their Office of Compliance. Some of the traits they are looking for include:

  • Someone passionate about working in sports/college athletics; preference given to those with a previous background in athletics.
  • Someone who could see themselves becoming a full-time Compliance professional
  • Someone with an outgoing personality who (in time) could engage coaches
  • Someone who is well-organized, communicates well, and could handle the workload of 20 hours per week in addition to their law school load
